Hello All, I"m a recent addition to this forum although I"ve owned BX"s
for a number of years. Now I need a bit of advice concerning
my sons Xant. It"s a 2.0 hdi P2 and has just failed the MOT
due to corrosion of a hydraulic pipe.
The pipe in question runs from the pump to a connection on
the steering ram and is corroded where it runs along the body
at a point which can be clearly seen behind the n/s front wheel,
via a flexible connector. It seems to be a one piece unit and
looks incredibly difficult to get out. It"s also expensive (£93).
Has anybody replaced this before? If anyone can give advice
or suggestions they will be greatfully received
Many Thanks
Richard

Hello Rory, thats made me feel a bit more confident. I just didn"t want
to get into any unneccesary dismantling .I"ve just been told
the pipe will have to be back-ordered so wont get it for a
couple of weeks. Will let you know how it goes.

P.S. I"m the one with the white BX estate who had the panels a while back off your old Xantia.....Perfect match,by the way.Glad to hear from you again.

These hydraulic pipes are quite thick walled, would it not be an idea to rub the pipe down and put some under seal on to get through MOT then change the pipe - ?
The pipe is not too bad Ive only taken them off once an engine has come out, but not changed one in situ, All I can say though is its simple clipped on all round the side of the engine bay, it runs, off the gearbox - the flexi bit, onto the side of the car, then it goes down onto the subframe and runs along the edge of the subframe just behind the engine / box there are two pipes that run along there to the rack. Im pretty sure it is relativily easy to take out as one..
I have noticed on quite a few Xantias that this pipe IS NOT coated like all the others on the xantia! Strange really!
Good luck
Paul
