though, sad as it is seeing them stood and uncared for, id much rather see
them there than not at all if they had been crushed. At least there is the
possibility to get the road going again.
I wondered; in truth that's a bit like my car ownership where I'm so fikkle,
I'll chop and change the cars on the road in a bizarre squad rotation though
I get a buzz bringing some out of slumber and going again and it's almost
like having a new purchase or making reaquiantance again with an old friend!!

I have a 1960 ripple bonnet that's about 80% complete but not running where
someone before my ownership liberated the fluted rippled bonnet so if you ever
see one on your travels, please blag it for me - may not fit in the glove box
mind... do'h!

Dave, enjoy the weather down there, it's bloody lousy here doing a re-run
of last year's no show Summer weather. :x

The Cx 'abandoned' on the beach could just be owned and 'hidden' out
of the immediate vicinity by the owner from his Missus who just doesn't
understand the attraction of an old weird Citroen!

The other 82/84 Pallas does look straight - I could only fault it on a possible
dimple of rust ahead of the rear filler and an odd paint missmatch - don't see
them like that any more in this Country.

I'm guessing the aircon must be on full song in yours to stop that leather
cooking you all inside?

Peter; don't take it to heart, it rains every time you're NOT here too! :x
Wales invented rain and exports it worldwide.

One interesting point about many of the pics is the number '24' on the plates. That number means the car is owned by a resident of region 24 (Dordogne). The are about 95 departments. Cars with a reg in the 90's are from Paris and they can expect harsh treatment when they venture into the rural areas.
So any vehicle you see here can be 'identified' as being from a certain department. That's nice.
At least that's how it used to be.
From June this year all registrations get a national number assigned. That applies to new cars but also to re-registrations of cars that are sold to a resident of another department, or for a car being imported, like our Xantia.

A funny thing happened with this car a couple of weeks ago. The new registrations started in June 09. So normally MoT stations will not get to see new reg cars for a while. But with ours, re-registered with a new-style plate because we imported it at the end of June, the MoT garage computer threw a wobbly 'cos the reg was not recognised. It took them 15 minutes to sort it out, lucky for us, because if they hadn't been able to then it would no doubt have become yet another paperwork nightmare, a pastime that France is famous for.
But heh, we love it here. Mostly.

Dave, very nice picutres, your Xantia is looking great, as it was at the national 8)

Air con is a must over there, our two weeks were scorching too. Im not sure how French people survive in their non AC cars, i guess they get used to it.

The weather isnt too bad here lately, ive had to have my air con on quite a bit here. Mind its currently pouring down.

The regional number plates are a good idea actually, although im sure 75 is Paris? The parts we went to were 24, 16 and 17. Although it doesnt show the age of the car, which is a bit odd. I did see a few cars with the new number plates, our French friends explained to me what they were for.

It was quite easy to spot the English cars over there, they were generally the newest looking and most flash! Then you see the UK plate and know your right. Although i did see two english Ford Kas down there and a Seat Arosa, quite a way to go in a tiny car.

It's something you don't get to see much in the UK or Ireland any more. Anybody with a load of seemingly "abandoned" cars on their property is seen as some kind of eccentric or menace to the environment, and will inevitably get a visit from the local council busybodies ordering them to dispose of the lot...

Here are some more French oldies. All French reg. numbers but in a yard 40 or so miles into Spain.

These used to be the only ambulances seen in France. Must have given a superb ride:-

This van surely didn't come off a drawing board?

This one was just finished and was for sale. Didn't dare ask!

Another two awaiting restoration:-

The white DS van above is an ambulance. Last year I saw a very similar conversion on an XM, apparently still in service near Reims.

Were these all taken during that weird French Twilightzone period of the day
where everyone is teleported to another place for a short while as I can't help
feeling I'm tresspassing whilst looking at these pictures!!? Even that mangy
aggressive mongrel isn't in shot about to remove your leg...
