Removing Xantia rear door

Post by Xaccers »

Trying to take off the rear door from the LX to swap with Cassy's dented one.
The BoL is living up to it's name, it says to unclip the wiring loom in the door and slip it out through the front of the door.
No problem you think.
What about the wires that go to the actual lock?
Do I have to take out the innards of the door to get to them or is there a secret nack?

The lock mechanism cassette does have an 1" long multiplug on it with a
spring loaded clip which needs undoing to free the wiring loom in the door.
There isn't a split conveniently on the hinge so you need to unthread the
whole loom in the old door out and then feed it all back through on the
replacement door. Right PITA but worth it for a dent free appearance!

Incidentally, undo the two 10mm bolts holding the door stay strap and
close the door to feed it into the door out of the way. Feed the electrics
loom out and then close the door and unbolt the two hinge pins fully with
the door still closed and tackled from the front door opening. You then open
the undone rear door as if opening it normally and can safely comfortably
draw the door off the pillar without any strain on the hinge/bolts etc.

Works for me every time; just don't round the torx heads on the hinge pin
bolts and use a tight bit on a socket etc.

yes Xac as i have just in the last few days done exactly that on my jalopy,

if its the O/S one as mine was with window wound fully up remove the lower rear window chanel (1 screw) then unhook it, now with your left side towards the door feed your left hand up into the door above and past the back of the outside door handle, now you can squeeze the spring clip of the plug in and pull the plug away,

apart from the plug being about an innch to innch ans a half long its the sam locking clip as on most of the finger opperated ones under the bonnet,

the rest as Andrew says, appart from the check strap knowing what i know now undo all four nits retainning it 2 to the piller and the other 2 to the door,

but dont place it into the door closed position before or after as it can be a bbbbb to re/arm it to the open position without dentting the edge of the door

When drawing the undone door away from the pillar there's no danger of
catching the edge - after all the door is designed to swing to 90 degrees
from the car. Fitting is easier too as the hinge is offered up first getting
the key alignment on the two pillar lugs square and then pressing the
door clicked shut takes the weight so the hinges can be threaded - never
chipped let alone dented the edge of the door, OK, yet!!

Thanks guys.
Just got back in and washed up.

Followed the BoL's advice and used the jack to support the door, but your techniques would have supported the door better :)

The locking mechanism from the donor door unfortunately was dead so I had to transfer Cassy's.
Fitting the glass was a lot easier with the square disc rather than the R clip that Juliet has.

Rather than waste time fitting the mechanical window winder and door card to the LX, there are two holes near the top, holding the window up, I inserted a small spanner through the holes, which keeps the window up :)

Incideantally, early plug SHAPES and Harness PLUGS changed on S2 cars...

The locks ARE interchangeable, and the opertaions are identical, but the PLUG on the harness changed from a spring clip to a red CLIP on the top of the plug that you left up and it pushes the plug off the socket, the socket changes are so that there are 4 lugs that the plug latches onto...

Id just thought Id add this S1 and S2 difference...

i dont mean chips to the very outer edges of the door,

i was talking abouit dents to the inside front corner edge adjasent to the check strap, if trying to prize the check strap back out after it had been pushed right in,
