Imo the renault/peugeot sports models are a lot better than the citroens though.
Perhaps a question of personal taste, BUT a 205 GTI 1900 (as well as the 205 DT) are milestones in Hatch sports saloons IMHO. Even today, a 205GTI will walk all over any R5 in the handling stakes.

If you re read my post i put the renault/pug hot hatches were/are far better than citroens attempts.

I mean you cant exactly compare the axgt/gti to the gtt's/205 gti's of the era, they were far better imo. The best citroen hot hatch to date is probably the saxo vts....

As for gtt vs 205, The gtt will blow the doors off a 205 gti in a straight line any day of the week. The 205 is better handling standard, but not massively better imo. Anyway dont forget the clio williams, now thats a milestone in hot hatches...

That's an interesting point about the VTS, I remember Top Gear (when it was good and had Vicki) pointed out the Saxo VTS was not only cheaper than the 106 version, but actually out performed it.
Personally, I think Peugeot went seriously downhill when they got rid of the 205 and 405, and Citroen have followed suit.
Dad's Picasso is so cheap and nasty (and gutless) compared with a Renault Scenic.

The sad fact is, Peugeot and Citroen don't make any cars which are remotely interesting. The good old days of the 205 GTI are gone. Renaultsport on the other hand, are turning out better and better cars every year. I bashed a Clio 200 round Cadwell Park on Tuesday, and I can honestly say it's the best car I've driven to date. The 200 felt very well made indeed, Renault have pulled their socks up in the last couple of years. Even my old 182 has been bashed round tracks for the last 3 years, and the only mechnical problem has been a leaking damper.
