Yes, I really mucked up the editing of my post Paul, hence the daja-vu  Alll corrected now so it makes some sort of sense.

Ahh well, that'll be a seat out job then to look at the connector. I can then see why the seat creaks a bit under heavy accelleration at the same time.

Logically, the steering wheel controls should either all work or none work as again all the buttons appear to be arranged in a 4x4 matrix straight back to the microprocessor in the radio. Oddly, the circuitry used for the steering wheel buttons and the buttons on the front panel that do exactly the same thing use totally different circuitry. You'd have thought they would have been wired in parallel but no, that would have been too easy!

I must get the circuits printed on A3 paper as trying to study a complex circuit diagram in a PDF reader is not easy at all

Jim, pictures added of my CD Changer plug under the CD CHanger post...

Seat creak could well be the seat mounting points, the thin tin they use to secure the seats can crack and brak, resulting eventually in the seat mounts dissaperaing into the box section holding the seat up

Just seen them Paul EEEEKKK

I think on mine the actual mounts are OK, the movement when rattling the seat is on the seat subframe itself. It stays very well anchored to the floor.

I've seen the mounts ripped clean out. My lad (who is a hefty sort of bloke) ripped them out of his 405 with ease

This morning my radio again performed perfectly  Came on at normal volume when I turned on the ignition, went off when I started the car (as they do) and then came back on normally and was good all the way into work.

How I hate faults like this

As said in Pauls CD Changer thread, if anyone has a duff CDC CD Changer, I'd love to have a look at it and see if I can fix it.
