We've got one in MK which is handy as they often have a few parts that are cheaper than elsewhere, like Xantia clutches or crank pulleys and are quicker to get to than the nearest GSF from here.

Theres a ECP about half a mile from our nearest GSF, never been in there though, always GSF if Kevin Cooper doesn't have the part available. No idea why I've never been in there as I have to drive past it to get to GSF

Dare i pass comment  I used to shop at ECP and GSF back in the day...

I did a poll on a very large VW/Audi forum a while back and it came back across the country 98% ish GSF.

Matching my own experiences, the general consensus was that ECP are cheaper on some things, but their service is terrible and their knowledge lesser than GSF.

GSF has always been for me and many others the kind of place you can drop in and have a chat, or a place where you can fire sketchy questions at the guys and still leave with the right part you needed.

A very common conversation we have is:
C "i need a part for my car..."
GSF "oh yes, what part is it you need"?
C "I dont know but my car is running lumpy / stalling / overheating at lights etc"

We then ask questions / recall previous learns, to rule out what it cant be we narrow it down to either the exact part or using out network of specialist independants make a few calls and diagnose the problem and sell the person what they need.

This is where ECP fall short, I have had a meeting with one of their upper echelons in the past and they arent interested in customer service....they are only interested in sales

Im a bit old fashioned im afraid, i like customer service moreso than price. So do alot of other people. If they didnt, then the only shops that would exist would be Tesco and Primark :)

But hey, all's fair in love and war :P .....just be sure your getting the right part

thats the one, but i found LSUK hastings were very good till the old manager was offerd a potision by a brewery he could not refuse, in a pub his wife had become the landlady at, after that i found LSUK absaloute rubbish,

as for ECP i think with the way our local GSF is run (not), it might be leaving the back door wide open for ECP,

but saying all that i have used GSF and previously ANDYSPARES for quite a few years now, and i find change very hard

I'm with vince on this one...

In my experiance ECP used to be good on service & price....but now they seem more interested in selling bling like fancy alloys etc, and their prices seem to have went up quite a bit.

GSF in my opinion is miles better....my local branch will do their best to help & if they haven't got the part or don't stock it they will get it, their prices are a lot better than ECP on most items....& if not they will price match with no fuss.

Cheers.

ECP claim to have Alfa stuff (but everything I wanted was out of stock...) whereas GSF don't do Italian AFAIK.

Cool! I'm ready to rock, if you can get Valeo (OEM) or Magneti Marelli for the radiator, receiver dryer and condenser. It won't be cheap!

If possible, I'd prefer to go through your own store so that you personally can keep on top of it. Just PM me a work number and your shift hours, sometime during the next few days - I'll be away until Tuesday morning GMT.

Should this fall into place, we'll throw Jim a bone, too.
