Blaupunkt CD Changer

Post by citroenxm »

Hi All...

Ive finally got my V6 Xantia here!

Im VERY pleased - and even more surprised at the amazing fuel economy from a 194bhp engine!!

Anyway, more of later... my first question is: The CD changer unit, original Blaupunkt one, 10 disk changer, does not work. It has the Clarion type 13 pin din plug at the changer end, but Im guessing thats connected to the TOP plug of the 3 ISO plugs in the back of the unit.. Does the CD Changer have a seperate fuse,? Or is it powered from the head unit. I cant get it to eject, and when I press the Mode button the radio litterally flickers as though it gonna change then goes back to radio...

Anyone any ideas? Have I a dead changer unit?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Xantia V6 :o Nicey nice!

The 10 disk CDCs can be a bit tempermental.
In fact mine is playing the prat and after testing on another Xantia (my cable isn't plumbed in yet) it detects the CDC but doesn't play anything.

Onto your problem. It does sound like it could be a problem with the power feed as the CDC should power up and eject the cassette even if no communication lines are connected. As my cable is an afterfit I've drawn power from behind the head unit, im not sure where the feed would have come from with regards to OEM fit (Hopefully Jim may have answers  ).
All the cables to the changer connect to a combination of the top 10 pin plug and the bottom 8 pin plug

Hi Paul,

Great to hear you now have your V6 :D Welcome to the club! The fuel economy, especially if you can keep your finger off the sport button and your foot off the small pedal by the brake pedal can be surprisingly good... Generally better than an Activa :o

Is it a MK1 or a MK2? With the 10 CD player, I guess a MK1 with a 4030 head unit...

Let me know and I'll dig out the diagrams for you. I'm pretty certain that everything runs through that 13 pin DIN though.

Paul,

Assuming a MK1, there is a separate fuse for the CD player. F15

Here is the Wiring Diagram

Item 8415 is the CD player and 8410 the head unit.

Hope that helps. If you need the harness and location diagrams, let me know...

Sorry Paul, I remember now about your V6. It must look identical to mine being the same colour :D That is a seriously early one. What is its RP number out of interest? Any pictures?

One thing about the MK1 is that it lacks the dash mounted gear indicator. No problem you'd think except that at night you can't see what position the selector is in as the panel lights up on the LH side only and the bit you need to see is obscured by the selector shaft

MK2 owners have this indicator where our oil temperature gauge is. Luckily thay are shielded from the worry of heeing how hot the oil gets

My crusie control is not working either. The most I've done so far is to check the brake light switch and that is fine in that it makes when the pedal is up and breaks when pressed. I did locate the vacuum pump but for me at least, the bits I need to access to check the pipe is inaccessible without removing the bumper. That's a project for a little later now the main issues on mine are resolved.

If you need the circuits of the cruise control Paul, let me know. I believe fundamentally that it is the same system as on the XM.

Could well be Paul :( The head is working fine I take it. Wish mine was. Every now and again it comes on muted and a touch of the volume control in either direction makes it go to full volume  On a 4030 that is VERY loud. Kev has supplied me with the circuit diagrams and one of these days I'll have an investigation into it. I think Kev also let me have full diagrams of the CD player so there is a chance between us all, we may be able to sort yours out.

One quirk I found with the 10 CD changer is that there must be a CD in the first slot, otherwise it fails to detect any CDs even if they are in other slots :?

Bumper off, Rubbish

If you get the car up high enough, you can move back the lower crap shield and get up to the pump that way...

If you have already checked the switch then I can guess then its likly to be your vac hose on the pump, they ALL split apparently...

Ive seen an CDC A05 cd unit on Ebay, infact theres 2 of them, Ive made an offer on one of them... see what happens..

Ill check my brake switch sometime today and go from there... My RP, 7508 if the number..

Ill get some pics soon..

That's interesting on the RP Number Paul.

Mine is 7571 so mine's a pretty early one as well, made a couple of months after yours...

Thanks for the tip about getting to the crusie pump. This weekend if I have a few moments, I'll take a look...

Ill have mine in possesion again over the weekend... been back at work so Ive been using the Xant TD..

Ill need to try the vac pipe on the white spigot and see if I get a result.. I have shorted the cruise wires - effectly making the join in the circuit, but it still didn't go, so I can but try swappingthe pipe accross and see what happens then...

I think the cruise control hose goes on the black spigot. I have not had to fix anything other than that split hose and the brake switch to keep mine working. It would be good to find a way to activate it with the car stationaly for troubleshooting.

Mine is RP 7519, so a bit later than yours (registered 1 August 1997 as a Citroen UK fleet vehicle) so a bit later than yours.

Funnily enough, my Blaupunkt changer has started to play up, skipping on some tracks, but it may be down to the heat here (in Burgundy on holiday).

YESSSSS!!

Got the correct spigot, it IS the black one, but my "DIY short out of the foot switch did NOT work, and kept my brake lights on permanetly...

Pulled the shorting wire off, and went down the road, and it worked!!!

So Ive got the foot switch apart right now, and gonna clean the contact up a bit better!

Let us know if you got a changer from ebay. I need one now (my current one is skipping on all CDs and the main drive motor sometime doesn't start unless shaken), but don't want to be bidding against you.

Right...

V6 and or BLAUPUNKT Headunit and CD Changer People!

I got a CD changer from Ebay, and connected it up - and - No joy!

So on sunday, while at my parents, I decided to find out whats going on, so I followed the CD Changer lead from the changer and found it went under the drivers seat..
So, out with the drivers seat, and up with the carpet - and lo and behold - a plug connection....
The harness then goes under the centre console and then up towards the head unit...

See the picture for the state of the plug, but basically, it looks like it could have got damp and caused a short circuit, as its a little melted....

So, wire by wire, off came the plug and I joined the two leads DIRECTLY together...

Then I reconnected the Ebay CD Changer and it Ejected... Tried a CD, and it didn't work... :? So its in the cupboard spare!

So upon getting home, I plugged in the CD Changer originally with the car, and hey presto IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!!

My bottom line S1 Blaupunkt CD Users: GET YUR DRIVERS SEATS UP AND CHECK YOUR PLUG CONNECTIONS!!!!

My car is a NON Sunroof car, but it appears something got to the plug!!

*Im waiting for Photobuck to gets its act together and send me password activation in an email so I can post the images!! So images to put in once Ive done that!

Regards
Paul
