what relay is this

on my 97 xantia Preg on the offside inner wing there is what I take to be a relay, I dont know what it is for as I cant find any info on it, but it there must be a reason for it, and I like to know what everything is for :roll:

Do you have a picture & what colour is it & how many wires ?

At a guess, it's your inertia switch. This is a device to cut the engine and fuel supply in the event of a collision.

This device can be identified by having a rubber cap on the top of it, almost looking like a push-button if you imagine hard enough...
