My ZX: Sunroof issues and Curry Smell

Post by Chevron Terry »

Hi ,
I have two challenges ;
First , electric sunroof fails to open . I can hear the motor running when I press the switch , either way .
I have noticed a curry like smell and a damp oily patch on the passenger mat . is it the heater matrix . If so how do I repair ? would it be dash out !
many thanks
Terry.

Hi Terry,

Welcome to the forum :D I hope you don't mind, I moved your post from the For Sale Section and retitled it...

Right, to business. I'm not a sunroof specialist but soon enough ypu'll receove advice there as I beleieve it's not uncommon on the ZX.

However, I can speak with some knowledge on the second problem. You have a leaky heater matrix :( Sadly, this is a very common problem on all PSA vehicles and nothing unusual.

Replacement is a dash out job and this is a long and tedious job although not outright difficult. Buget a whole day with assistance. Fortunately the matrix itself is very cheap to buy. have a search for all heater matrix articles related to the Xantia (there are many) and you'll gan an idea of the job and the pitfalls. In particular be very careful of the joint on the matrix where the hoses connect.

If you cannot do the job just yet, try a dose of Forte Stop Leak. It can work wonders on a temporary basis and is completely harmless; it is actually recommended as a preventaitive additive by valeo who make the matrix.

I would caution against the use of mainstream products like K-Seal, Radweld and Barrs Leaks. I have my reasons for not being very friendly toward them at all. Forte is fine though and I run it in one of my vehicles.
