C5 problems and issues

Post by custard »

right then

ive got an 02 C5 1.8

its got climate but the passenger side has a mind of its own
sometimes it does as the temp setting requires
other times it just blows full heat.
am i looking at a replacement full dash unit from ebay/scrappy or is there a fix?

ive seen the rear doors not opening from the outside is an issue.
my rear passenger door does this.
is it an issue with the door handle unit?
my drivers handle is also getting to the point where it 'opens' at the very top of its travel,is this the same?

i noticed my headlight bulb was out.got a new one and discovered the last owner jammed the bulb in with paper towels
turns out they lost/broke the wire holder that locks the bulb in.
anyoner know if this is available as a seperate part?

sorry,loads of qu's

You need to narrow down the cause. It could be a dud temperature sensor on the passenger side working intermittently.
Or it could be the servo motor that opens/closes the flaps that direct the air. The gearing on these is a common fault.
Either way a scrapyard may be a viable sorce of spares, not least so you can learn how to get to them without damaging your interior - practice on someone else's.

Again there is more than one cause. Adjustment of the catch/striker being one

I often found myself locked out of mine not long after buying it.
A generous dousing with a light lubricant fixed that but needs repeating periodically. Also, the door needs to be closed tightly or it won't open again. A firm shove from the outside usually does the trick, may work for rear doors too.

If you have the child locks set they can make it impossible to access the rear seats without considerable damage to the interior of the door.

Never seen them but they are fairly standard and a scrapyard is your best bet for that.
I dropped mine in the bottom of the headlight unit the first time I tried (and failed) to change mine. It is still there, along with the first bulb I tried to fit. Must fish them out one day - I have a pair of bulbs waiting to go in now, one failed on Friday.

Fortunately it is lashing down, all the excuse I need to postpone it until another day.

Mine has the "Eco" button.
I kills the AC compressor and just uses normal ventilation for cooling.
Saves a few mpg, supposedly.

I use it mainly to allow the condensor to dry out. Hit it for the last couple of miles on a trip.
Otherwise you can get condensation/ice lingering there that wets the pollen filter and promotes fungal growth along with unpleasant smells.
