'98 Xantia 1.9TD Estate - LHM leak

Post by Malcolm »

Hi, have had 95k miles in my fantastic Xantia with not much going wrong needing forum assistance but great help when needed.
I have had spheres and a regulator changed at Westroen previously so no previous suspension issues.
Last night, I noticed a small pool of LHM under n/s of car when I was parked on full lock for a few minutes. It didn't seem to leak after that so I was thinking it may have been steering rack on full lock causing a problem.

Anyway, today I put it on high suspension and got it up on the ramps - LHM all over the drive. Cleaned everything up and leak appears to be from the union cylinder directly under the LHM reservoir. Having removed cap from reservoir LHM free flowing.
Removed reservoir. The cylinder is aboout 80mm long by 25mm diameter and has two pipes from one side (one of which goes to n/s suspension sphere), two from others side and one from the end cap. The leak appears to be from the blank end cap which I found to be loose and free to move with fingers. I assume this is not correct!

1) Is this a common problem? Has anyone previously had experienced this?
2) Will a tighten up with mole-grips do the trick?
3) Any idea on how much LHM will be required to refil reservoir?
4) Will refilling reservoir with new LHM sort it out i.e. self bleeding?

Any assistance greatly appreciated

Malcolm

it sounds like the anti sink capsule end cap/s, to fix this you will need a new seal under the edge of said cap, then before refitting the cap smear the matting surface with clean citro blood (LHM),

service citroen dont list the seal on its own for this unit,

but im sure i recall one of the H/P pump plug seals dose fit and is the corect type of material,

one of the above seals is
4026.87 DIA 16mm 1.59 trade inc VAT
the other is
4026.88 DIA 19mm 1.25 " " "

Thanks for that Malc. I'd already nipped it up and got some more LHM. It's nipped up OK and is not leaking. I've got that info now, thanks, so if it should go again I'll do as you recommend

Thanks
Malc

Front anti- sink valve

Post by lawns »

Hi Malcum,
Do hope you have fixed your front anti –sink valve as I have just had the same problem on my MK2.
However my access was so limited by brackets and engine that I had to remove mine.
I tried a new hp pump plug seal on it and am sure it would have held as I locktited the threads.
However 2 weeks later it was leaking again, as the valve had an internal leak for some time I ended up with the last new one in the country from GFS.
Anyway a tip I would give is to leak check the valve with the reservoir removed. I used a smaller deep plastic jug as a resvoir so you can see the anti sink valve with pressure on it. Have a large tray/ plastic sheet under the car for leaks or overflow and keep a close eye on the fluid level.

Hi,
thanks for that info. I'll keep an eye on it. I checked earlier today after a twenty mile run and doing Citrobics and could feel nothing on finger or using a paper towel. Let's hope GSF restock before I need one.
