That's not quite the right way.

Insert key into ignition barrel.
Press unlock button on fob.
Turn key to "ignition" position.
Hold button for about 10 seconds (I think handbook says 30 seconds but 10 is usually enough).
Remove key from ignition and see if it now locks the car.

If it doesn't it could be a faulty sender unit inside the fob. Could be costly as I think you would have get a complete new key.

I take it that you only have the one key with remote buttons? If you had a second then you could see whether it's the sender on the key fob or receiver in the car that's at fault.

Sorry, I can't think of any other easy ways to test.

If you think about it, the key fob is a transmitter (lock, unlock, windows) so there logically has to be a receiver somewhere on the car. I'm sure I've read on here that it's in the COM2000 unit (the big unit on the steering column behind the wheel which holds indicator, wiper, radio and cruise control switches).

It's possible that this unit is playing up but I think that you'd need to have someone read for error codes with a Lexia. Even then, you can't always disprove a negative and there might be a hardware problem that doen't show up.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery, waiting 5 minutes and reconnecting to see if this cures the problem? You'll have to reset the radio and clock if you do this, though.

If the car has com2000 the the reciever is in there if not the reciever is in the BSI.
Have you had the plip checked with a keyfob tester to see if its giving out a signal ?
If it needs a new remote it comes without a keyblade & you just swap yours over but it will need to be programed with a lexia as the transponder is in the remote.
