Will dealers fit optional extra's on used cars?

Post by Quackers »

Think i'm gonna go for a used Citroén C6 around december now they have dropped to around £13-£15K.

I really want the lounge pack in it, which is a rare find in the C6 as its an optional extra and only ever seen 2 for sale used with it. If i do not have the lounge pack i will never be happy with the C6.

If i buy from a dealer will they fit an optional extra to a used car they are selling? Anybody ever had this done with a Xantia or C5 etc in the past?

What's the lounge pack again? The twin reclining rear seats?

I'd say you'd be looking at big bucks.

Have a look at pr-net and buy the parts yourself? :D :D

When I bought the 807 the dealer offered to fit extras (front parking sensors, CD changer) ... at a cost.

Why not go and haggle, you can always walk away. Funny what the effect of the sight of the back of a customer can do to a salesman.

Thats good to know. Now my next problem, what to do with my Activa if i get a C6, i'm limited to 1 bay per appartment, and i am not paying £8000 for an additional space :( , but Activa so special....

I'll look after the C6 for you, while you sort that one out?

If they were equal to £15K here, I'd be slavering for one!

Personally I'd try and find somewhere that will allow me to rent a C6 for a while, just to see if it's actually worth having.

How is it around town or in a multistorey car park though? :)

Mulistory carpark could be fun, but i live right in the center of town, and Xantia is never a problem and thats not a small car, but C6 is a little longer... My trips tend to be long motorway ones or just to work and back and motorway in a C6 must be nice.

Yeah, it was on eBay a few weeks ago. Seems the only way to get rid of an old Xantia is to give it away for free... :D

Not being sarcastic or anything, but theres a bit of a difference between fitting a cd changer and a pair of electrically adjustable reclining seats. The labour costs would be astronomical before you even talk about paying for all the necessary parts - have a look on pr-net and see what I mean...

For the lounge pack i'd bet it would be twice what the optional extra charge is so say about 2k as some bits like where the buttons go would be specific only parts, not something someone could just cut out for you.

Are you really going to be sitting in the back of the car that much that you need them though and will your passengers really enjoy it enough to warrant the extra cash outlay?

If it were a long term car and it was a choice between 2 used ones, same condition, milage and so forth and maybe say £250 extra for the lounge pack one i'd go for it as it would make it much easier to sell on in a few years time. but if its a long term car just think, extra electrical gubbins to go wrong. The C6 is already loaded with more than enough electrical gremlins in the long term to keep any chevron lover happy

I'm the kind of person who could never buy say an LX Xantia because i hate empty holes where a button 'could' be, and it always niggles away at me , always hate seeing in the owners handbook buttons i do not have and spendin that kind of money on a car and having things missing would highly annoy me
