Leaky Leak Off Pipes

Post by blueboy2001 »

A while ago I noticed one of the injector leak off pipes was leaking on the Xantia, so I swopped the right hand most 2 with genuine pipe from GSF. The pipe I found on the car was braided whereas the genuine stuff is just rubber.
The pieces I fitted are leaking a fair bit - theres a permanent pool of diesel around the neck of the injectors. I know the car is not on its original injectors, so I'm thinking the nipples may be a slightly different size and thus the pipe I've fitted isn't sealing properly. I'm going to pop into the diesel specialist we use at work and get some proper braided hose as if nothing else it doesn't look like it'll perish in 5 minutes like the Citroen stuff.
Are there any tricks to fitting these so they won't leak? I cut them straight - should they be slightly angled like the nipples? Is there much chance the leak could be coming from where the injector goes into the block rather than the pipes? Its not causing any problems as such at the moment other than dirtying the engine block - it starts in a couple of seconds and runs well so the dont seem to be letting air in.

My experience of the braided stuff is that its far worse than the smooth original stuff, it perishes and hardens much quicker which is probably why they have to wrap it up with a braid, its also much more pliable and softer when new which ought to say something of its long term ability.
I suspect they all buy this because its cheaper than the original type pipe you see fitted to most engines, when you see braided pipe on them at least you know its been meddled with.
The sharp barb of the nipple is easily damaged if a metalic object has been used to get the old pipe off, in such a case it will never seal.
Should be easey enought to pinpoint the leak, if its high up its either the leakoff or the pipe union, dry it off and see where it develops.
