C5 REAR ELECTRIC WINDOWS

Post by corsehf »

Hi,
The rear NS rear window has stopped working. I can hear the motor trying to do something but nothing happens.
A few days ago when the window was fully open, it would jam when trying to close by tilting slightly, by working back and forth you could get it to close.
Now however, it will not open or close even though the motor is trying to do something. Even worse is the fact that whilst driving along, the window will just drop bit by bit with no apparent support. When parking up, i have to pull the window up manually and try to wedge it shut otherwise it just drops slowly whilst parked up - bit of a security issue!!!
Does anyone have any idea's???

Sounds like a broken winder to me, I guess it's the cable. Cit will only supply a complete assembly at some ridiculous price. It was possible to repair the winders on the XM so I suspect that it is possible to replace the cable with a suitable piece of wire but I have never done it on a C5.

Not sure of the C5 setup but on the Xantia the window is held onto a plastic clip.
This clip is fixed to the cable of the mechanism and if the clip parts from the cable the motor will still work just winds the cable around itself
This also leaves the window with no support and will allow it to drop.
The Xantia ones are quite easy to replace if somewhat expensive from memory as you end up buying the complete motor and assembly.Maybe worth taking the o/s/r door card off and seeing what should be happening so you have some idea of what is what on the n/s/r

Can anyone tell me what item 7 is on the illustration.
I have the door panel out and the reason the window is loose is due to the glass not being attached to the winder mechanism.
I assume that its plastic but cannot find the old one.

Have taken some pics of the Xantia setup hope this will help :)

This is the plastic slider that you can see facing you when door card removed

this is the rear of the plastic slider with its locating lug showing the wire held in place

this is the side on view

this is the glass with grommit in hole

this is the slider and grommit

this is showing the grommit over the locating lug

This may be different setup to yours as this one uses a "R" clip to clamp over the lug and grommit to hold it in place.
On the electric winder i swapped recently there is a smaller grommit that leaves more of the lug protruding. This has a square washer that pushes over the lug and gets turned about 45 degrees to lock the lug in place.

Hope this goes someway to explaining the previous diagram :) :)

I think the part 7 you got may have been the locking washer :? :?

Hi, thanks for all that but it looks way different to that. The illustration on the right in the drawing is mine, it shows item 7 as the only attachment holding the glass to the mechanism. Its just a small white plastic peg but there must be something else missing.
Incidently, where did the old peg go???

Not sure where the old peg went but looking at the drawing item 73 looks like a pop rivet which appears to hold the peg in place

Yes i can see what you mean but i took that as the rivets that hold the mechanism to the door, the peg (no 7) is slightly above that on the drawing.

Spoke to Main Stealers, they could not see anything that i was missing, so tried to fit peg which fell into two pieces!!???
Could not convince the peg to stay insitu with the window so resorted to peg and duck tape!! - good old modern technology.

Still cannot work out where the original peg or parts are, should be in the bottom of the door but they are not - unless the peg is an aftermarket part???

Please nobody ask me for advice because i still have no idea whats going on!!!!
