Xantia screeching fan belt

It could be with the battery being so flat, the alternator has to provide full capacity for longer after starting which places a heavier load on the aux belt giving it more opportunity to slip so that could be good news! The bad news is the cost of a new diesel battery.

I'm guessing, once a fully-charged battery is fitted, the squealing will be reduced if not cured all together.

hi guys..just a quick update..i charged the battery and this has helped a lot the car now starts everytime :) although the squeal is still there but not as bad :)..i was talkin to a guy who said to pour coke on the fanbelt as this would be sticky causing grip on the belt :oops: ...i doubt this would do anything and dont want to wreck my beloved Xantia..anyone know if this would help?

Certainly an unorthodox recommendation.

Many claims are made for the properties of Coca-Cola, the majority being apocryphal. I wouldn't place much value on this particular claim.

Good to hear that it is starting and running OK now.
