C5 HPi fuel filter

Post by rsdavies »

Halfords list and sell a fuel filter, the haynes book makes no mention of changing it , it does how ever mention a charcoal canister located under the left wheel arch I am guessing this is what I and presumably halfords call the fuel filter. How often should it be changed?

Charcoal canisters are used to collect and temporarily store the fumes from petrol prior to them being burnt off by the engine. Fuel filters on petrol injected cars are generally found under the rear of the car close to the vicinity of the fuel tank and more often on the offside.

The petrol C5's dont have fuel filters, just strainers in the tank.

If petrol C5s have no fuel filter that could explain the apparent common failure of the HP pump.
If the charcoal canister leaks then presumably charcoal granules will end up in the fuel, which might explain why a friend with a vauxhall found charcoal in his fuel filter.
