Solved the problem!

Post by dearjohn »

Hi there guys,
Have really enjoyed reading all the posts on the forum for the last year or so, as I was the owner of a 1994 Xantia VSX turbodiesel.
Well where to start!
Every problem you can mention, and then some.
Fantasic car when it wsa going well, how ever this was often not the case.
Finally solved all the problems at the one time by selling it and getting a Mondeo turbodiesel(1994 also).
I really wanted to like the Xantia, but £1500 in repairs in 18 months was too much.
Briefly, 4 brake disks
flush system and refill
Rebuild rear ride height unit.
2 handbrake cabels.
new clutch needed
Rebuild front ride height unit
Cam belt breaks!-needed valves, machining work, camshaft, tensioner etc
Alternator fails.
Rear suspension unit leaking, VSX ones very rare in breakers yards!
Central locking failed 3 times.
ABS resists all efforts to get it working
Water pump fails.
Get fed up and leave it in shed for 2 months.
Mechanic replaces waterpump, says Timing belt contaminated by 2 months antifreeze, replace it along with tensioner.
Plastic water pipe union bolted on back of engine block cracks. Bugger of a job to replace!
Another leak from back suspension.
Heater quits working.
Temp guage climbe to red, stop to investigate.Where has all the water gone?
Refill (2 gallons are permanently in boot).Drive home carefully.
No sign of a leak, dump in 2 tins of radweld, sell it to a bloke from 90 miles away.
Buy Mondeo.
Will still keep visiting the site though!
Regards, Nigel.
