Xantia II Estate - Rear window wiper

Post by VertVega »

Last weekend my Xantia's rear window wiper stopped working. I have seen it made an attempt to wipe but the movement was like 5 cm and since than it stayed in that position. I checked it at the parking area. With the engine stopped, click sound of the relay can be heard when it's switched on.
I don't use rear window wiper so often. I wonder if they have such a "short" life time :(

Can it be repaired? Has anyone done this job? Any advices?
I hope it is not a "closed box" like the radiator fan motors.

I take it you have checked the arm securing nut for tightness?

Switch the ignition and wiper on, then repeatedly close the tailgate (not massively hard). Does the wiper arm move at all, again?

-Securing nut is tight.
-I have tried closing tailgate several times while wiper is on. Also gave some additional knocks around the wiper motor area but no change.

Now I know why some Xantias had the rear wiper somewhere in the middle but not in the base position :)

Next I will remove the wiper motor :?

Wiper motor is working again :D

The motor was suffering lack of lubrication and that caused mechanical problem. There were only some remains of a very clean and red colored grease. I think they didn't apply enough amount during manufacture because it can not disappear. It was well sealed and there were no leaks.

I had to remove the wiper motor and open the cover by drilling out the rivets. Cleaned and applied new grease. Repacking needs screws to hold the cover and the body. I used 4 mm screws.
