Don't know anything about this crew but there may be information here that will help.
They seem to do pump servicing and have seals available.

If you are getting smoke from the exhaust you are getting fuel in, the fuel will not spurt from the injector pipes unless they are only just open as the quantity injected is very small. Have you tried starting it with easystart? if it will run on that but not on fuel it could be that the pump timing is out.

Thanks for the reply Peter, yes to bring back the car from the garage late last year it started no problem with easy start.

Hence my thinking it is air getting into the system some how but where :?:

If you have smoke from the exhaust you should be getting enough fuel into the engine to start it. You say you have 10.5 volts on the glow plugs, what is the voltage across the battery when the glow plugs are operating? How is the cranking speed, is it turning over as fast as it used to?

Hi Peter,

Problem No2 the battery died having to crank so often suspect cell knackered.
New battery later this week.

The cranking speed was enough to eventually start car after much turning over. Did NOT check voltage across battery during cranking though.

Another thought re my pump problem what affect would there be if the double relay for the pump had a fault :?:

Any thoughts or ideas.

P.S. I've got my new battery and going to change all the piping from primer pump to filter to see what affect that has.

The double relay can cause a couple of problems. It's job is to supply the ECU and immobiliser with power and if the immobiliser side goes down, the engine will never start whereas if the ECU does not power up, the symptom will be very difficult starting as the glowplug controller will be non-functional (the ECU controls it) and the tacho will not work. If the engine does start it will run badly because there will be no timing control.

It's easy to check with a votmenter that you have the right supplies at the right places. I posted all the wiring diagrams in one of MikeT's threads recently. They will be applicable to your car Kenny..

Cheers Jim,

From your reply it would appear the relay is okay because once the vehicle is running there are no problems.

Therefore its back to the air problem first and then the pump.

Latest, there is no air leak with the new hoses.

It would appear to may be a immoboliser problem.

The car starts after about 25 to 26 turns before she starts.

When trying to start it the immoboliser light starts flashing and once started the peeping sound for 2 to 3 seconds then both the peep and immoboliser light goes out.

Sorry to bring this up again...... Really this screams "glow plugs". The fact it starts as soon as it gets a sniff of starting spray screams this. Also the fact if you crank it for so long it "warms" the combustion chambers ... it'll start.

Have you put a voltmeter on the glowplugs to see if they have voltage while your cranking.... and voltage with just the ignition on ??

Yes, I've test the voltage on the plugs when cranking and its 10.5 volts across all 4.

Hence the reason I'm confused and suspect the problem lies when i had the new barrell fitted and keys recoded.

Hi Kenny

10.5 volts while cranking sounds high, the battery voltage would hardly be that. Have you actually removed any glow plugs to see that they are actually working? (sorry if you have said this already - long thread)

Sorry Peter and Shane,

As you have commented Peter a long thread :lol: , I have NOT checked the voltage when cranking and also NOT check plugs out of vehicle.

My reasoning for suspecting the recoding is, the vehicle was running fine until recoding and the guy who did it said he had some difficulty recoding even with the original key card.

I'm going to speak with a former citroen mechanic who runs his own garage and see what he says.

I will get back to the forum if and when i have a result.

Hi Kenny.

Just a thought, but have you tried the old fashioned way?

Get a piece of wire and run it from battery + to the glow plugs and hold it on for 10 seconds, quickly run round and try to start it without waiting for the light to go out, if you still have a no go, then at least you have ruled out the glo plug curcuit.
