While your at it clean where the caliper its on are as it's ali to steel and you get electro corrosion.i used zipp wheel and then copper slip.as mine did similar caliper seizes one side chewed up dic as it wore pad out at angle. as corrosion distorts caliper.all i did on mine was to take small bolts and pads out replace bolts then remove big bolts caliper then comes away. I did find calipers/re'con for good price while ago forgot where now?
Also if you have it well supported on stands etc you could load it up with a trolley jack under arm/hub being very carefull

what steve ment by a shim is not the factory fitted shim (if/when fitted),
but anything at least thick enough to allow you clearance to get a lever in between after you have go the piston to move,

i would not do this as if the susspension drops you could end up with the car tippingover and off the axle stand
