Xantia Rear Calipers

Post by surfer »

This is only for advice based on recent bad experience:
I had to replace the rear discs and pads on my '96 Activa because one of the discs was badly scored.
Upon removal of the caliper from the trailing arm to allow the disc to come off, I noticed that half of the caliper had been left behind.
The caliper is a cheap aluminium casting and the suspension arm is steel; galvanic corrosion had turned at least 3mm of the mating face of the caliper into alunium oxide, which I had to chisel at to remove.
Obviously I had to replace the calipers too.
My point is this ~ if you are also needing to change rear discs, chech the condition of the calipers before you start ~ you may have more work to do than you were expecting.
The only good thing about the whope job is that after a good spray with plusgas, the old discs came away easily without so much as a single tap from a hammer.

This is also a very common problem on the BX.
