Hi,
My son has a 110 HDi Xantia, and we were both wondering if a cambelt is a home job or not. He was wondering, I was worrying ( another job to add to all my others ) .
Thanks,
Greg

Now I've done one I would say yes. I did mine couple of months ago. I did have problems (see my blog) but it was my first cambelt and I hadn't tensioned the belt properly.
Now I've done it though I'd definitely say yes, can be done at home.

This is my blog:

There isn't any pictures of step by step guide in there but it may be useful when considering potential pitfalls to the job.
One other thing....MAKE SURE THE WATERPUMP IS DONE AT THE SAME TIME!
Any other info needed, all anyone one has to do is ask. Be happy to help

Toby!
Been there before, with the older XUD
Being as the Pump is belt driven its always best for the sake of 20 quid...
Im NOT saying I have not done a HDi belt before, but was interested to see if methods were the same or similar, or if I done anything different.. etc

I changed the belt, water pump and tensoniers on my HDi today, the only difference's from a XUD are that you don't need to lock the pump as its not timed to the engine.
Also the crankshaft locking hole is best accessed from below as even with the specific tool its very difficult to located the hole from above, oh and the hole on mine isn't 8mm so I used a 7.5mm drill bit to lock the crank.
Unlike a XUD, the belt tensioner isn't spring loaded, its an eccentric tensioner so replacing it is somewhat easier.
For some reason having replaced/tensioned the belt you need turn the engine through eight revolutions, relax the tensioner then re-tension and turn through a couple more revolutions this is in both the Haynes BOL and the genuine Citroën manuals.
