Mpainter, have you checked to see if your Xantia has the CD changer loom wired in?
Regarding all things CD changer related in the Mk1 Xantia check out this link http://steve.jellybaby.net/xantia.htm

I don't think the Blaupunkt head unit will drive the Clarion changer, more information in that link

Quite right Red dwarfers... The S1 Blaupunkt unit WILL NOT drive a Clarion CD changer HOWEVER If your NOT bothered about the steering wheel controls put in a S2 Clarion Headunit and that CD changer...

All plugs the same, just the steering buttons wont work...

Citroen cd player and mirror

Post by mpainter22 »

I've put an aftermarket CD player in the car and to be honest it looks rubbish, i was wondering if there was a factory fit cd head unit for my age of Xantia, also i have purchased a N/S mirror from EBay a week ago but as yet i havent recieved it or had a response from the seller, as you can imagine im getting a bit worried that i've been had, if anyone does have the mirror particularly i'm willing to pay for it

Mk1 VSX (and some other) Xantias were all fitted with the Blaupunkt head unit to control the Blaupunkt CD changer, all cars have the wiring to go to the changer adapter lead.

That head unit will not control any other changer, and may not work with some newer Blaupunkt changers.

If you have the compatible head unit (the top left button has the word "Mode" on it), then changers are easily obtainable ex BMWs, as the owners upgrade their audio.

Be aware though that there is a common fault in the Blaupunkt changer where the audio is silent or skips for a few seconds at the beginning of a CD, and this degenerates to the point where it won't play at all.

This is due to the chip that controls the head servo dying (perhaps through overheating). I have had 2 changers die with this.

While on the subject of CD players, with the Mk2 Clarion system, how do you switch between radio and CD using the steering wheel controls?

Unfortunatly not the case, my 1997 R plate has the loom missing (only about 4 wires coming from the 10pin DIN connector. The Mk2 CD setup has a different connector all together (the round mini din) which is separate from the large square 10 pin DIN.

You Dont, you simply just hit the CD or TAPE or RADIO button in the middle of the unit...

Yes I agree, NOT ALL cars have the wiring ready fitted, I think possibly just VSX S1 cars have it fitted.. as it was an option on the VSX cars ..

With the mention of the self destroying chip, then Id FAR RATHER go for a S2 Clarion unit and live without the steering controls.. They seem a more reliable unit, and theres slightly more CD changers about to work with the head units..

SORRY: Back to the original question, I have ONE nearside Electric Door mirror, and its a Plain SX type with NO colour coded backing on it...
