2.0TCT: 22 mpg around town, up to 39mpg on a good, long run taking it carefully... Average around about 30mpg

2.1TD: 45mpg average best 55mpg long run, driving for economy.

V6: TBA but reckoned better than the 2.0TCT

2.0 HDi: Most economical of the lot... Better than the 2.1TD

Official figures for the 2.0 HDi (combined) is 51mpg

That is actually quite representative of what I'm getting.

45mpg round town and I have 60mpg on a run.

Can't speak for the other engines. For official figures, Parkers is a good place to go. However, most official figures are quite optimistic

My Activa seems to do around 20mpg around town. Got 29mpg on a weekend to the Lakes, which isn't bad really for the mix of driving we did.

It still seems a bit of a double whammy when it's fill-up time though. There's the low mileage since the last fill (compared to the ZX) and the bloody big tank!

Have you tried running your Activa on Shell V Power James? It really does seem to help it to be a little less thirsty. I was going use the phrase "a little more economical" there but whatever spin you try to put on it, the choice of words would be all wrong as you cannot rightly use the words "Activa" and "economical" when discussing fuel consumption, or for that matter anything remotely Activa-related

It also helps to keep the turbo spinning and have a *very* light foot....

My V6 will average around 30mpg on a long steady run, more like 25mpg off of the motorway.

However I filled up the AX at Christmas and it's still not empty

Funnily enough, I filled it with V Power yesterday. I've used Tesco Super a couple of times, and thought the consumption was better, but it turned out not to be the case (dodgy French fuel gauges!). It's been regular unleaded for the last couple of fills. I'll report on the MPG soon (too bloody soon... :) )

Dont forget there are 2 hdi engines.

I think most people regard the 110 as more economical as it doesn't need as much thrashing to get moving...

I get about £20 a week to last about 240ish miles at 86.9p/litre

I'm going to gill it up this week and then see what i can do from another tank as the last one got about 670miles from the brimmed tank so the next one im going to run it right into the reserve(which on all xantias still seems to leave about 10 litres in the tank....

I'd still love a nice exclusive estate or activa with leather trim in good nick despite the MPG downfall i would suffer...

I get 27 and a bit (averaged since purchase, best ever 46; fully verified) punting the 2.0 16V wagon, and I'm not overly gentle. My observation about the Xantia odometer is that it's optimistic by about 6% - anyone else checked theirs?

(Speedometer is also wrong, but by a creeping margin!)

If im doing 50 on the speedo the road side speed warnings say im doing 45-46 so its nto too bad really, only 10% which is nearly 1% for every year old she is...

My V6 also does 30mpg on a steady motorway run, the trip computer reads..

1995 (Model Year) 1.9TD Estate on fairly new Michelin Energys of the correct size.

A recent a 'brim' to 'brim' check on 300+ miles (a mix of short local journeys, country main roads and M5) gave 42mpg; normal driving with no attempt at economy - that's why we have had diesels for 20 years!

The odometer is accurate to less than ±2% (on a regular run to S. Devon, it clocks between 130 and 133 depending on minor detours, the TomTom calculates 131.4). The speedo (according to TomTom) is 3 to 4% optimistic between 50 in so-called 'road works' restrictions and 80 on an empty motorway.

The legal requirement for Xantia speedos is between -0% to +10%. Car manufacturers have to ensure that every speedo will be within those limits despite manufacturing tolerances, and all the permutations of rim diameter fitted at the factory with tyres that may legally fitted even when worn to the limit.

It would be useful to know if there's a significant difference between the (heavier?) Estate and the Hatch/Saloon bodies.
