C5 Speedo & remote locking

Hi all.
Im looking to buy a 2001 C5 HDi at the moment, the one i have found has 2 problems:
1 the speedo doesnt work, is there a common fault with the speedo's, if so what could it be (guess that it is electronic)
2 The remote locking isnt working (so im told) but it will lock with the keys and set the alarm, assuming its not the batteries in the key what are the problems with getting it going?

1) It most likely won't have a road speed sensor in the gearbox instead taking its speed reading from the ABS system, If a BSI reset by disconnecting the battery doesent work it's most likely an instrument panel fault. Is it an automatic by any chance ?

2) If its not the batteries & the remote(s) dont just need re-syncronised then its most likely a faulty remote.
