xantia central locking

Post by andy007 »

Hi All
M reg 2ltr Xantia C/L stopped working on the fob. Tested both fobs IR with camera and working. Locks with keys. Disconnected battery over night but still the same (thought there might be some default if I did this)

Only problem since doing this is the headlights flash for about 10 secs. They stop if i pull the fuse (no17) or pull out the relay. I dont want to have to do this.

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks in advance

Andy

ps.. Is there a factory reset somewhere in the elecetrics, say the ECU, and does anyone know where the alarm overide/siren switch is on the M reg Xantia

The flashing lights is the alarm so you're fortunate the siren isn't still active
too, someone in the past has turned the ignition key in the barrel on the
scuttle area in the engine bay. The system's sensors reset though upon
reconnection of the car battery; the fix for the flashing lights is either to have
the ignition turned on and THEN reconnect the battery OR upon turning the
ignition on and triggering the flashing lights you need to QUICKLY depress
the dash switch that looks like a cross through a WiFi symbol.

To 'teach' the sensor in the headlining to match the IR signal, the plip needs
to be held right near it and depressed twice WHILST the ignition is ON, easier
if you have x2 plips otherwise you'll need to dismantle the innards out of the
plip. How fresh/strong are the plip batteries though as they may be sending
a weak signal hence their non operation now?

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the reply. Batteries are new in the fobs. Both are sending a signal as I have an IR scanner too.

Any idea why the fobs suddenly stopped working, and is there a 'master reset' for the car?

Hi Andy,

the only common factor would appear to be the plip receiver in the headlining
panel above the rear view mirror if the two keyplips are apparently in good
order. There's the remote likelihood of water ingress around the sunroof panel
(that's if you have one) although this is more likely on an Xm and I've not
seen it happen yet on a Xantia. You haven't been working on the sunroof
motor recently where wiring could have been disturbed?

The only reset on the alarm is the WiFi type button previously mentioned. The
scuttle lock barrel in the LHM reservoir corner of the engine bay in the plastic
scuttle trim under a small round cap simply requires the ignition key turned
90 degree left (IIRC) to stop the klaxon sounding and deafening you and
irritating everyone else!!

Andrew,
I have been trying to program a spare key fob for an age. There are quite a few methods of doing this it seems.
I gave up long ago and had a go at your method today but still no joy.

I have a 95 1.9 Xantia TD SX. Any info would be greatly received.

A few weeks ago, while my plipper was broken, I had a flat battery which caused the alarm to trigger (and no plipper to switch off the alarm ). This prompted me to repair the plip properly during the overnight wait for the new (car) battery to be delivered.

As a result, I had to re-program the car sensor to recognise the plipper. AS far as I can remember, I simply followed the instructions in the hand-book....but it did require multiple attempts. You have to do something within (IIRC) 2 seconds of turning on the ignition that needs 2 right hands on a right-hand drive car, I ended up crouching beside the car so that I could use both hands!

With new batteries all round (car and plipper) I didn't need to hold the plipper particularly close to the sensor. But I have noticed that the plipper range is dramatically reduced when the sun is shining on the car - presumably because the plippers IR signal is so feeble caompared with solar radiation.

I'll try to remember to take the hand-book out of the car tomorrow and post its instructions.

Sorry, the instructions for 'synching' a plipper to the car aren't in the handbook - must have been told how by our mechanic. I seem to remember that you need to turn ON the ignition, then press the plipper within 2 seconds while it is aimed at the sensor. Not hard in a LHD but nigh on impossible with RHD - you need a spare key (Mister Minute).

If the plips work ok but wont sync, Check the wiring to the receiver in car.

Mine had a fault with the permanent 12v so the receiver wouldn't work/sync the fobs, ten min job to sort it.

Got some info today via fleabay... Didn't work tho.

Brigsygtt, I have looked at the receiver by the rear view mirror and all looks ok, no loose wires an all that.

Will have to check the permanent 12v tho, you never know.

However I have a feeling that the problem is with my key fob. The one I am trying to program works fine when I test it through the lens of my digital camera.

Thanks all

I had a similar problem and all it needed was the inside of the red dome in the headliner cleaning as it had a lining of dust in it, stopping the signal from the plip getting through...

HTH
