Hi Mark

You can definitely save a "small fortune" by doing the repairs yourself with the information and advice available on these forums. Here are the web addresses of three UK companies with online prices who specialise in spare parts for french cars and who are happy to ship overseas,

gsfcarparts.com
eurocarparts.com
AEPdirect.com

For example on GSF,

We offer a World-wide export service (except the USA and Canada), and can deliver to Europe next day(subject to conditions), and the rest of the world within three days if required. We also offer an economy postal service for parcels less than 2kg should the part not be required urgently. If the parts are to be sent Overseas, we will contact you with the delivery charge and total cost to confirm the order. We arrange all the necessary paperwork for you, to ensure that your goods go through customs as quickly as possible. Please note that VAT (UK tax) does not apply to export sales outside the European Union. For more export information and prices please email our export department: export@gsfcarparts.com
There seems to be some interest in old Citroens in Israel as evidenced by this article "The French Connection" which mentions the "Sahara" 2CV 4x4 which has 2 independent engines.

My friend over there said that Citroen lost a lot of customers with the BX as the non-metal panels faded quickly in the sun.

Yes the red ones especially fade to a very washed out looking pink.
It must be even worse in parts of Australia.

There's no rust to speak of in 20-year old PSA vehicles here, but plastic deterioration of the CX/BX/405 era cars, is pretty amazing. It breaks in weird ways; almost seeming to "rip" with internal tensions in places.

As to the strut tops - we have similar climate to Mark's country in many areas, and they still fail. The rubber just tears with age.

David, I saw as minimum the first of web sellers You write about, but custom problems kept me out of this idea. Now I"l try it! Thank You! :D
I love BX more, than Xantia, but their plastics inside & paintworks-something are really "disaster"!
On my Xantia-everything OK, even all external plastics, I think first of all because it has roofed parking. Morever, Michelin's tires "worked" on my car 8 years!
But anyaway-I am going to check strut tops seriously.
Thank you all! 8)
