I have no direct experience but have heard that replacemend after market stereo's will work and with adaptor leads will use the stalk controls but the display function won't work.

You are correct that a dealer has to recode a replacement radio to the car - I believe the standard charge for this is around £45.
A Lexia may do it but I think not.

RE: the eBay site. I have had confirmation of despatch from the vendor and replied with the warning from Chrome of the security compromise on the page.

That will work once re-coded to the car - a new replacement is very expensive though.

You can definitely reprogram the VIN in the radio with Lexia/Proxia.

Im guessing you have a mk1 C5 ? These have ISO connections whereas the C4 radios have a quadlock connector so it definitely wont work with your C5, they also use a different networking system anyway so are also electrically incompatible.

Thanks for information. Any idea what other Citroen radio would work, i.e. C2 or C3?

The display on my mk1 C5 has stopped working, so, I can't see which radio station I'm on and the CD player and CD changer won't work.

So, I found the original radio from my daughter's W reg Saxo. and tried that. She took it out to fit a Kenwood unit.

This Saxo radio has an LCD screen and connected perfectly. It also allows me to use my CD changer.

I got a facia adaptor off ebay too and it all looks tidy.

Looking on ebay right now there is a Saxo radio just the same as the one I have fitted.
Cheers, Kev

Hi Kev,

Just out of interest is the display showing other information? Did you check the fuse in the car and also back of the radio?

I already have a non standard radio in the car but would really like an original so as to use the display and controls on the steering column.

My original C5 radio works but unable to get any sound out of it  Yet the traffic master thing works and my current radio works with the speakers.

If you still have the old unit I maybe able to use it for parts if you want to dispose of it, pm me

I have seen a few Peugeot 307 radio's on flebay which look as if they have the same connections also C2 & C3 radios. Part no PU-2471A(E) would this work with the C5?

My faulty display is a 7" colour screen. It doesn't display anything, just blank.

Some auto lead suppliers can provide an interface which allows you to use the steering column control stalk of the C5 with your radio. There is one specifically for the C5 and speaks VAN language. But, your after market radio will need to have a 'joystick' input socket. This is a 3.5 mm socket on the back of the radio which allows you to connect remote control interfaces.

I've not been able to find any after market radio which will give an output which will give info that can be displayed on the screen.

So, it looks like you can get a non standard radio which may be able to use the column stalk but you won't get a radio which can drive the screen.

The easiest option for you would be to buy a C5 RD3 radio off ebay.

ps.. That Clarion PU 2471A on ebay does look like it may fit, but you'd be safer going for the one listed as being for a Xsara/Picasso/C5. That one looks just right and has the ears for screw fixing.
Cheers, Kev

I have been looking at recoding Citroen Radios, i have spoken to ICE specialist who tells me it is possible to clear the codes (the VIN number) completely, the down side is if someone nicks it they will have an uncoded stereo!

Hi Andy thanks for the kind words in my other post. Do you know what leads are required to recode the radio's?

Thanks

tim

As far as I am aware you need the Lexia software which I obtained from fleabay which is supposed to decode the radio. You also need OBD cables to connect between car and computer. I have not had chance to try this yet due to work. Also the software appears to want a usb OBD cable and mine is serial so may have to get an updated cable. Maybe someone else on the forum can confirm this. Again as far as I am aware the Lexia software will not run on Vista (nothing new I suppose).

Cheers

Andy

Still no untoward activity on my bank account or eBay/Paypal but this warning has just emerged on The Register, which may be something to do with the Crome warning.

Hi Andy,

As I confirmed in a previous post - Lexia software and an OBD 'lead' won't work, software without the hardware is useless. Also bear in mind that generic OBD tools can't program parts. This kind of thing is way outside the OBD standards. The Lexia 'cable' is actually an interface not just a lead. Before certain dates cars didn't have to be OBD compatible and probably aren't even if they have a OBD socket - for example my 53 plate C5 HDi has an OBD socket but doesn't use OBD protocols, that's part of the reason I bought a Lexia.

A look at this page will hopefully clear things up.

Hope that helps?

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for information. Think at present I will continue to use my non-standard radio.

Looking at the car's handbook it mentions a fuse for a separate amplifier :? Not had chance to check this yet but does the standard C5 LX have one fitted and could this be the reason for no sound from my Clarion RD3-01? If so where is it located. Getting sound from non standard radio and from traffic master. The Clarion switches on, displays radio stations and cd tracks just no damn sound!

Thanks
Andy

Never seen a mk1 C5 with an amplified sound system. Some mk2's have the JBL sound system with an amplifier under the drivers seat.
