C5 radio

Post by Scottpr »

One other small problem is my radio, It is the standard c5 radio as far as I am aware.
The radio operates fine, will play cd's no probs but wont tune into fm, it will pick up AM no problems, but doesn't want to know when it comes to FM??

I have tried replacing the aerial but to no avail, anyone else had this problem? Could it be the aerial cable has come loose somewhere in the car? I have checked the connection to the radio and all seems fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Scott.

Just the mast, was going to look at the base and see whether a connection had come loose but couldn't figure out how to get it off!!

You access the base under the headlining, the base is powered & needs a live feed to it.

Ok took the headlining off and had a look. As far as I can see there is a Live feed to the base, though without a multimeter I cannot confirm this, though I did disconnect the power cable and what weak signal I am getting did seem to drop a bit!

You can buy a voltage tester for a couple of quid from DIY electrical shops but one of these wouln't go amiss.

Because it's a link to a dodgy website, or so my google chrome tells me anyway

The link is to eBay.
We will be able to see if the site is dodgy as I bought one to replace the one I crushed a couple of weeks ago.

Hey Scott, I'm not really one to trust Google that much! Especially a product of theirs still at infancy. I'd certainly trust Steve far more than Google.

See if you get a similar warning to before on the non-referrer link below...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0299855358

Looks like a screaming deal if you don't need auto-ranging or frequency data. But - you'd think some savvy manufacturer would offer an "automotive specialist" rig with super long high quality leads. The number of times you might have to trace back from the engine bay into the cabin or boot is significant.

Cheers, Adam.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Addo. I certainly wouldn't knowingly compromise anyone's security.
OTOH I always use a Linux sandbox for online transactions.

Long leads would certainly be a useful addition. I did look on ebay for a set but drew a blank. I used to buy them from RS and Farnell but apart from being stupidly expensive you need a trade account for them.

Fortunately it isn't all that often you can't bodge it somehow.

Most of us don't have any use for advanced functions so the extra cost isn't worth it.
TBH we probably wouldn't know what to do with them anyway.

Google Chrome does indeed throw up a warning of an embedded associated site containing possible malware.

I apologise for my haste in accusing you of trying to compromise my security! I am sure you was only trying to help and it is indeed a teething problem with google chrome, I again am very sorry!!

Anyway apology out of the way.......If I was to replace the base would this solve the problem? I Have, rather crudely, tested the feed to the base and all seems fine.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

No problem, you do right in not taking your security lightly.

The base of the antenna and the socket it screws into can become corroded, sometimes a bit of a cleanup can work. If water has penetrated the base then the electronics will likely be cabbaged and your only recourse is a replacement.

C5 Radio

Post by andydykes »

I know the radio has to be coded to the car's vin number but would any other Citroen radio work in the C5? Have seen a few on fleabay which are cheaper than a C5 radio e.g C4 radio's. Am I right in assuming that it will work with our steering mounted control and display correctly?

Anybody got ideas or experience on this?

In the process of getting a copy of the Citroen software to program, I already have the leads so maybe able to offer help to local owners diagnose in the future.
