hdi auxiliary marks

Post by toofargone »

Can anyone tell me how to get the right tension on the auxiliary belt on an hdi, (year 2000) engine. It has the tensioner with the 15 mm bolt head. What way should the marks be aligned?

Thank You

Before you start take note of the routing of the belt - it makes refitting much easier

First of all take your 15mm spanner and rotate the tensioner as far as it'll go anti-clockwise, you should now be able to lock it there with a 4mm allen key (use a nice long one to make things easier) thorugh the hole in the wear mark indicator and the backplate (you'll see one of them rotate with the tensioner and line up with the hole on the backplate). Now slip the belt off. There are two methods depending on if it is a new or used belt:

If the belt is new, loosen off the manual tensioner (not the auto tensioner you locked earlier) and feed the belt on. Now tension the belt with the manual tensioner until it removes the pressure on the auto tensioner and it it is possible to remove the allen key from it (without having to use the spanner on it)

If the belt is being reused then leave the manual tensioner as it is when you took the belt off. Refit the belt and once it is on rotate the auto tensioner to remove the allen key and then gently ease the it down clockwise to tensioner the belt.

With both methods, double check that the belt is located in the grooves properly before tensioning up.

Voila - one tensioned aux belt

Hope that helps and that I haven't missed something
