XUD9 Lucas pump general tuning advice?

Post by Nuneatonrob »

The other half has a Pug 306 XUD9. It's a P reg with a lucas pump. The engine is very clean and has never missed a beat. The thing is it doesn't seem to boost like it should. The black plastic plug on the front of the pump 0nly undoes one way easily because of the plug design. Id like to get the boost a bit lower in the rev range if poss? How easy woulod it be to tune it in some way. It is well serviced. I was thinking what a good XUD 9 in a Citroen would be like. The old Xsara is going well and I love it again.

Mechanical Lucas I think he is talking about

Believe it was only the 2.1 that had the EPIC

Mechanical Lucas I think he is talking about which were fitted to some 1.9 engines. CAV or Roto-diesel I believe (I've been reading up on Injection pumps )

The Lucas your thinking about Sl4yer is the EPIC (electronic) Lucas pump which was only fitted to the 2.1

(Posted again as my first post made no sense )

Fantastic...that is a superb article.....I am going to have some interesting reading and fun me thinks. She's a good old car that Pug. Been rock solid so far.

It's just a shame it has a lucas pump on it...oh for a Bosch pump!!

Thanks guys.

All the best.

I'm sure I've read on here (many times) that the fully mechanical Lucas pump (not the EPIC) was fitted only to some N/A 1.9s, and therefore that all TDs could use veg oil. Obviously not, according to that article. Unless they saved the best (Bosch) pumps for the Cits! :D

I am in fact wrong. A quick look on Citroen Service reveals the Roto-Diesel was fitted to N/A and SD (light pressure turbo) versions.

The Bosch is fitted to all other 1.9TDs

The EPIC to the 2.1 only

My apologies

To our knowledge all 1.9TD Xantias were fitted with bosch pumps.
306s, ZXs, Xsaras etc had whatever was on the shelf.

That's interesting as my N reg SX had a bosch (if only I'd known back then that it could run on veg, it would have saved me a trip to France during the fuel blockades :D )
