Experience of 2.0CT engine in non activa Xantia's
I've come across a cheap Exclusive Xantia but its a 2.0CT engine.
I normally get about 45mpg out of the HDi im driving from what i can see by very rough calculations. What can really be expected from one of these beauties in estate form?
If its much below 30 i don't think i can viably afford to run one at the moment but the estate and leather trim are tempting me and something that has more get up and go than a snail is very luring...
PS its got 110k on the clock and is manual so will use the ML5T box i guess and hydraulic clutch?

Got to be the best Xantia estate for speed freaks!!
Yep, it will use the hydraulic clutch as the Activa. The fuel consumption is
pretty dreadful on these if you're tempted to use the able performance and
you can try and aim for 30mpg but then there's almost no point having it if
you're afraid to use any power unless you ration the 'fun' moments...
...I'm wondering why Citroen didn't sell an estate with a V6 as the mpg has
been a pleasant surprise on the Exclusive I've just bought!
These are really rare Xantias and probably missed by the Activa Despatchers
thankfully. Does it have a sunroof as estates rarely do but it's an Exclusive?
Leather in an estate is rarer still!
Guess it all depends on how much you can buy it for as the cheap price will
balance out the heavier mpg on the cheaper Unleaded.

Indeed you can You can still get 30mpg if you stick to 70 on the motorway...Quackers wrote: You can get 40mpg out of these if you stick to 56mph
It's all about driving style. What the 2.0CT hates is pootling arround town; it shows it's displeasure by getting hot and drinking fuel to the tune of about 22mpg
The 2.0CT Exclusive Estate is a great and luxurious load lugger for long journeys.

You see which ever car i get will be doing about 10miles to work and same home everyday on the motorway and its 4 miles to the motorway from my home on an A road where within a minute im upto national speed limit and when i come off the motorway its national speed limit till i get to the drive for the office.
Currently i use about 1/4 of a tank a week in the Hdi
In the old veggie tank i was doing about 1/3 of a tank a week as well.
I suppose i could always keep it for a weekend toy or wet weather use when i cant ride to work but then i may as well just get one of those nice Activa's with leather trim..... hmmm

I made an error in my last post It should have read 39mpg at 70!
They're a lot more comfy than an Activa but still handle exceedingly well, as any well sorted Hydractive car does
It's a hard choice
Well now, this is a difficult one. With a 2.0CT Exclusive Estate you nearly have an Activa. All that's missing are the expensive and potentially troublesome bits (the rams) and two less spheres so easier to live with maybe.KP wrote: I suppose i could always keep it for a weekend toy or wet weather use when i cant ride to work but then i may as well just get one of those nice Activa's with leather trim..... hmmm

Your daily use is almost exactly the same as mine and due to it's limited
range, you can get away with a heavier car on fuel without feeling a
massive hit on your wallet which is why I can justify owning and using
apparently very daft cars daily like my:
2.0i TCT Activa
XM V6 24v s1 (90degree V6)
CX GTi Turbo2 (the 2.5 petrol)
Xantia V6 24v Exclusive (60degree V6)
probably in order of magnitude of mpg; none of these which are renowned
for their frugality!!
If you were driving 2/3 of that in nose to tail stop start grind at 20ish mph
in and out of town you'd need a diesel auto - that said, you DON'T and
have an almost optimum requirement on your run to work.
I'd say, buy that Delage red 100quid Activa on ebay with the leaky ram!
Second choice the 2.0i TCT EXCLUSIVE estate!!
I'd imagine many would love to own such potent petrol Citroens but are
unable to justify the 50odd mile grind ONE WAY to work in one!!

Looking at the TCT estate pictures online, I'd say the offside rear wing looks
a bit odd in the reflections so looks to have had damage there as well as the
nearside front wing. Whilst it's got the wrong nearside door mirror that may
be explained by it being a frequent visitor of Bristol where no mirror is safe.
The offside front foglight is trying to do the same trick as that red ebay Activa
too!! Towbar and full leather but no sunroof. Sounds like it's in Cheltenham.

Be wary of damage on Estate rear wings. They can be prone to rusting if not properly repairedandmcit wrote:Looking at the TCT estate pictures online, I'd say the offside rear wing looks

In fact, whenever looking at an Estate look very carefully for rust in the rear quarters. Heuliez, who built them, did not seem to do so well with the rustproofing as did Citroen themselves. Tailgate leaks (very common) don't help.
The TCT Estate that donated my 2.1 leather seats wore a "V" plate and was badly rusty in the back...

We got 30mpg average out of it and trust me, we don't take it steady. You are never accelerating long enough to burn much fuel unless you've got a really quiet road.
It's a perfect overtaking car, bags of oomph and nobody expects it so you don't get wallys trying to block you, by the time they notice you, you are past.
Biggest problem I had was getting parts, the local Citroen dealer never could understand that it wasn't a diesel and exhausts are hard to source.
I'm not totally sure now whether the damage on the driver's wing is the
usual scraped wheelarch - why do lots of Xantia drivers do this just to
the back arches - it's not like thy're hipped out in a big exaggerated
bulge yet nearly every Xantia I see has this even if it's just the paint
scraped!!?
The ping in the main part of the rear 1/4 panel may just be that
- kids chucking stuff about etc!
