C5 Rear screen opening

Post by JohnD »

The solenoid on my rear screen has packed up and the screen often pops open when a door is closed. I'm having difficulty explaining to Spanish Citroen parts departments what I want. Can anyone tell me the Citroen part number for the solenoid.

Is it the hatch lock motor ?

The hatch lock motor :
6615.27 ACTIVATOR

But I suspect your real problem is a chafed cable in the loom to the hatch.
This would be the standard problem also known from Xantia Estate.
Carefully inspect the rubber protectors containing the cables running to the hatch.
Not uncommon you may find more than one wire nearly broken.

I dont think the solenoid is the problem, something must signal it to open, most likely the screen itself/the microswitch on the glass. The 'wiring' runs inside the glass like the heated screen elements & can corrode. Do you really need the opening glass ? I would just leave the solenoid unplugged.

There can't be much wrong with the solenoid if it's firing. I unplugged it on our one because it was doing the same thing.

It is quite an easy fix. There is a detailed description of the remedy on the Yahoo Groups Forum (somewhere) and it takes around twenty minutes, a soldering iron and a piece of thin insulated wire.

I took the lazy road and had an auto electrician do mine while he recharged the air conditioning gas.

Thanks guys for all of that. I've unplugged the solenoid temporarily and the glass stays shut.

I've looked again at my rear screen. It seems that the solenoid is OK. It shoots forward when the opening button is pressed. I've also found the article on the C5 Yahoo site, but that is a repair for when the button DOESN'T work - mine does. My trouble is that the screen often opens when the driver's door is opened or closed. All ideas are welcome.

I use it quite a bit, it is a lot lighter and easier to use than the full tailgate when I only need to chuck something light into the boot, needs a lot less clearance when reversed into a parking space near a wall.
