Citoen rear suspension ride height

hey guys me again, i've had the rear ride height adjusted in work the rear is riding better than before, but it'll rise and then drop back slightly, is the anti sink now playing up or is it normal??

Sounds like a sticking height adjuster.

i've had the rear height adjuster un seized, i broke the rear adjuster link a couple of weeks back

As long as it rides at the correct height I wouldn't worry about it

If you mean the rear rises up as say, passengers alight or you take something weighty out of the boot, then it is quite normal for the back to rise and then fall as the height corrector does it's job.

Have you ever noticed when filling with fuel the rear will sink with the extra fuel load going onboard and then (if you have a good accumulator) rise back to normal height again :lol:

I noticed that with my XM the other after I put five bags of coal in the boot, first ime in 13 years! :D

this is happening at start up before i or anyone else has got into the car, the rear rises to what i consider to be normal ie the bottom edge of the wheel arch is just above the top of the tyre, and drops to just above the top of the wheel trim basically it drops the height of the tyre side wall

The "rest" position you have described with the engine running pretty closely fits what I have found. Pics shortly.

thats normal behaviour, both my old xantias did that... nothing to worry about. the height corrector doesn't work that fast, so when the pump pressurises it may send a little bit too much fluid, but when the height corrector susses that out will compensate for it... mean the hc is working.

Series II Xantia Estate Ride Height

This is Series II Estate ride height, as set by the factory - albeit possibly for "poor roads". Car was started and allowed to idle for a couple of minutes. Parked on level ground.

Tyres are 185/65/15 at 34PSI (rear) and 36PSI (front).

You seem to be describing perfectly normal Xantia suspension behaviour. All Xantiae have 'active' suspension that automatically compensates for changes of load both when the engine is running and, within the capacity of the rear (anti-sink) accumulator, when the engine is off.

Yes, Jim, it's distinctly weird to be leaning on the car as it slowly sinks while you fill up - then all of a sudden the car rises all on its own!

BTW, the old and/or infirm finds it much easier to get in and out of a Xantia if you raise the suspension to High.
