Hi again
Out of interest, would the suspension pump from a 1993 Xantia petrol model be the same as the pump from a 1993 Xantia diesel model ??
I may be able to get one from a petrol model, hence why I ask ?
Cheers

Xantia 1993 suspension problem

Hi Nick.. I had a 93 "sinker" , and in very cold temperatures the car was very slow to rise -the red warning light staying illuminated... I found that by turning the steering wheel slightly with engine running, this seemed to "fool" or nudge the FDV into allowing the system to pressurise. Another easy and cheap check before you replace parts is to clean your LHM filters , -this can also make a remarkable difference to the power steering performance ! Regards, Martin
ps. there are quite a few different pumps for the xantias, so the petrol one fitting yours could be a long shot.. Somewhere on this site one of the members has catalogued all the pumps and the cars they fitted - try a search

I won't do that again
I've had problems with the pump on my "sinker" '93 vintage VSX actually
shearing the through bolts and allowing the end cap bowl to come away
off the pump end which distributes the high pressure fluid. Very messy.
Basically there car had a problem with the 'slug' of high pressure fluid before
the supply circuit was opened!
The problem you have may very well the O ring seals that run through the
pump even if yours hasn't sheared the bolts. If one of these has 'gone' it
will appear like the fluid is running out of one of the pumps orbital 'plugs'.

Hi All
Thanks for the advice so far, I think I need to start by changing the pump and the spheres, first job will be the pump, I asked yesterday if the hydraulic pump from a 1993 1.8 petrol Xantia would do the job and was told that a member had posted a listing of different pumps on the site.
Can I find it ?? Can I hell !!!!
If anyone can help me answer this or has the link to the posting please send it to me or advise, I now have the possibility of 2 petrol hydraulic pumps and really need to know.
I have contacted Martin at Plaides but as yet no response, so really looking to get some info on this or will be a case of removing the pump and getting reconned, need the car on tha road so all help very, very gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Nick

I'm not sure where the original pump thread on this forum is but my
previous posting in this thread does give the rundown of the various
options on the 'sinker' era pumps that have the single inlet/single outlet
design; remember this is different to 90% of all other later Xantias
available!! With that in mind, among the earlier pumps the DIESEL and
TD IS THE ODD MAN OUT with a larger diameter pulley!!
All the other pumps' pulleys barring the diesels have the same smaller
pulley diameter although additional differences aren't detailed.
Don't want to be negative here but the fact is, you need to find the near
unobtainable!! You may be lucky and know a tidy breaker that is thorough!
OK, most of the early cars will be diesel and TD so there's reasonable odds!
I'd certainly concentrate on getting the leaking pump cured before you
adjust or replace anything else as you may even find the spheres respond
well to the correct pressure in the system. I managed to repair my rarer
early pump scavenging the leaky seals off a later pump but the problem
with your pump may be totally different - check out whether the 3 through
bolts are still in good order...

Hi Nick,
I have a good TD sinker pump you can have but I MUST have your old one in exchange as my pump forms the heart of my sphere tester. Yours will be OK for that role as it's not a very demanding one.
You can either pick it up or I can post. Let me know.
