BERLINGO 1.9 D OIL IN HEADER TANK

Post by sledge »

Hi all I have just joined this forum and am asking for your help please.

2000 model year Berlingo 1.9 NA D Van.
I found lots of oil in my header tank.
No water is present in the oil.
Heater still works fine.
Does not overheat.
Starts on the nail.

2 Questions.

1) Is it likely to be the oil cooler?

2) Is it a job that a DIY bloke like myself can do if it is the oil cooler and what is involved in doing the job?

Thank you all very much and a Happy New Year!

Regards
Sledge

Hi sledge,

Welcome!

If the oil is dark black, and there is lots of it, then yes, it's likely the oil cooler has failed. Changing this on a 1.9D ought to be a sinch. Drain coolant, drain oil, remove oil filter, remove pipes from cooler, unscrew cooler. Refit reverse of removal.

My tuppence ... :

Pressure test the oil cooler once out in daylight. If no evidence of leaks then the leak got to be elsewhere ...

Thanks guys I am going to attempt to do the job tomorrow, so I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again
Sledge.

Oh P.S. Why does my horn sound so wimpy?? One thing is for sure I cannot be accused of road rage with a horn as feeble as mine lol.

It's probably due to a poor earth or total voltage drop over the whole circuit (+ve & -ve). I had the same problem with my MK1 Xantia though sold it before fixing it.
