Would you care to tell us what year your car is and its mileage? There are a few known faults, many age related. Would also suggest a search of the archive will also throw up a lot of relevant answers from owners who have similar problems and found solutions herein.

VTS?

Is it a Xantia or a Xsara?

Hello Rummins, if it is a Xantia, it cannot be a VTS, unless some monkey has been doin' badge swapping.

I think you will need to look at the feed wire to the ignition switch that supplies the lights. Look at some of the recent posts as a number of other Xantia owners have experienced the same problems.

Have you checked the fuses? That is usually a good starting point. Chances are, if they are blown, you have a short in the circuit.

The Mk1 Xantias all had the lighting feeds through the ignition switch, with contacts that were not man enough to take the power, especially if you have upgraded the lamp output. It is easy enough to fit relays to the headlamps and then use the switch to control the relays. Gives the switch a much easier and longer life. That's assuming the contacts are not completely burnt.

If you are not sure about what you are doing and are in the South East, PM me as I can have a look at your car after Christmas.

Your car's a bit of a rare beast, then. Turbo petrol estates are unusual, and worth preserving.

Then the wiring loom shroud at the bottom rear of the radiator may have the openings at the top, to let the water and rot in.
