I bought some fuel filters from GSF the other week, and I wish I'd got some glow plugs at the same time.
Anyway, I'm getting around to that now, and I noticed that on the same page as the Beru plugs is a glow plug spanner? Is this somethnig I should buy?
I have seen the link someone kindly put up about how to change the plugs, thank you. But is this, or anything else on the GSF site I should considering buying? I'd rather not find out that I need to make another order in a few days.
Thanks
Tim

No, don't waste your money on the glowplug spanner Tim. I did and found it useless for the hard to reach No.4 one. In fact, useless for all of them.
Buy instead a good cranked 12mm ring spanner, a good 8mm ring spanner, a pack of Blu-Tak and some rag.
Stuff the rag behind the injection pump and use the Blu-Tak to hold the 8mm nuts. Also, put some wire around the glowplugs to make them easy to retrieve should they try to fall int an inaccessible gap. Glowplugs have an irrestible urge to get behind the injection pump cradle - hence the stuffing of the gap with rag!
Somewhere on here is a good guide to replacing them.
Undo them with the head a little warm and spray a little Plus-Gas around them a bit before trying to undo them.

Ok, Jim, thanks... two questions... my spanners aren't exactly 21st century - what is meant by 'cranked' 12mm spanner? I mean, 'cranked'?
Secondly, what is 'plus-gas'? Like WD40?
Yes, I did read the guide to replacing them.
Thanks for the notice about not buying the spanner from gsf - £10 saved!

Hi Tim,
Here is a decent'ish Cranked Ring Spanner that'll do the job.
Draper (Elora) stuff is not the most wonderful quality. You may find Halfords do a better one. I rather like Halfords tools and the Pro stuff has a lifetime guarantee.
Plus Gas is a releasing fluid. It is expensive but excellent. The only similarity it bears to WD40 is the blue can it comes in. WD40 is not expressly a releasing fluid but rather a general cleaning/lubricating spray that does nothing expressly well.

I had a full service on it, and I have bought a couple of fuel filters now that I have started putting a little svo in it. Other than that, I have made a cursory (untrained eye!) look under the bonnet and around. The front spheres/supports do not show any signs of rusting.
I could do with a checklist really, as, like I said, I'm not sure it is that I'd be checking for.

Haynes is really good on checklists.
In fact the first part of every manual is a large "common service items" chapter, covering all sorts of regular sevice intervals, from small 6Kmiles (10K km) services up to large 60Kmiles (100K km) services.
Every Haynes manual also have a very good MOT checklist as the last chapter.
No - I dont sell Haynes manuals, I just like the idea of having a checklist supporting my old brain 8)

Well I finally got around to changing the plugs.... but didn't very far, and this is why:
It's the pipe clip on the pipe that runs from the oil filler to the air intake.
I haven't seen one of these before, and couldn't/cannot understand how it works, or even if it's re-usable. I had to wrench it to get it off, but that's no good if I'm meant to re-use it, so I decided to stop right there and seek your advice chaps.
Can I just use a new jubilee clip on parts like this pipe?
Thanks

Those nasty OEM clips are re-usable when you're desperate. The tool of choice is a big pair of side-cutters (wire-cutters). To undo: while squeezing the clippy part together with side cutters, prise apart with small screwdriver. To do up, just squeeze joint together - but forget about re-using a clip with a new pipe.
