xsara ream beam replacement Q's

Post by _kid_ »

The rear bearings on my Xsara have collapsed causing a bouncy ride, the rear offside is lower than nearside and the tyre is starting to catch the body so it looks like the rear beam needs replacing.

My local specialist has said £200 to supply and fit a second hand beam, and they say it will take 5 (five) hours.

The price sounds fair, does this sound reasonable

Also my car is a 2000 abs with rear drum, the donor car is a 1998 NON-ABS with rear drum, the specialist has said he will the replace the beam with associated components but keep the drum brakes and abs sensors of my car (this is good as the rear brakes and cylinders have been changed and the abs is working) does this sound ok, i.e. is this transferable?

That sounds a bit odd for such a new one. Has it done a massive mileage?

The price sounds very cheap to supply AND fit. Presumably the replacement beam is straight from the scrapper, and not a reconditioned one. If you're OK with that, and trust the garage, I'd say go for it. Just be aware it might not last.

hi its from a donor xsara they have brought for spares, the mileage of the beam is around 80,000. re the price they chagre very low labour rates as it way out of town.

its a bit of a lottery i am aware of this, just seems like a bit of a poor design, and a quick on on the 306 forum shows its a common problem.
