Series Two Xantia Radio (Clarion unit)

Post by citroenxm »

Hi all

Ive now got 3 Xantia S2 Headunits that are completely blocked from incorrect code entry..

I Have the correct codes, but failed to remember it for the matter of not removing it from the dash to get the code - written on the back.

Anyway, whats now happening, im leaving the unit on for over an hour with the 4 dashes in the LCD, then when I press BAND to get "Code In" in the display, it just shows 4 dashes in the lower section under the middle dashes..

Can these units be reset at home, or do I need to send them to someone with reset tools to start again...??

I also have a unit without a code, and before you shout, Ive never managed to get a Computer program to decode them, unlike some folk say you can.

Many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Regarding the two lines of dashes, I reckon that its a case of leave them powered on for a couple of days until they clear.

Code wise, I've got a head unit without its code too!
The older Blaupunkt units can usually be decoded using the serial number, I've got one of those generators to do that too.
The Clarion units are a different kettle of fish and have the code stored on a little 8 legged 93C46 EPROM inside the radio. The only way of getting the code for these radios is building your own interface to a PC 8) (or of course paying someone big money to decode it for you)
I will get around to building one at some point in the next couple of months and seeing what magic I can make!

Hi Kev,

Im a bit parchial to some electronics and dont mind dooing a bit of soldering...
if its a simple citcuit, I could probably make a copy if you said what componants you used... I know of a programmer who could POSSIBLY write a small programe for reading it.. for free too...

Its not a huge rush..

I wonder if its worth leaving a unit connected to a HOME DC adapter rather then run down a battery....

Thanks for the tip

Hi,
Have you tried leaving completely unpowered for a reasonable time?

No the new units require power for an hour or two the first few times of being locked then your talking about a day or two....

Use a home DC power adapter like you said and it should clear after a while :)

exect,

Yes they been left for about a month unpowered.. no difference..

KP,

Done exactly that last night, cut out a plug from a spare car and connected it up to a DC power supply and left it on now since last night..

See what happens now..

Cheers lads!!

Will update you if anything changes..

I had to go through the procedure in the spring but forgotten exactly how. I'll be doing it again in the next few weeks so will note what's what if you can wait that long.

I do know that by default, the ignition needs to be on (accessory position) to power the radio but there's an optional fuse shunt to change this to battery direct.

Additionally, it's not enough to push the button (BND? can't recall), you need to hold it down a second or two.

Hi Mike,

done all that useual procedure... you get 4 attempts to put the code in, thats when you press the BAND button after each fail to try again....

Its after the fourth time it locks out - as the hand book says - for an hour and must be left on for that time.. HOWEVER Ive found that this DOES NOT WORK on all 3 of these radios, so Ive connected it to a DC power supply in house, and just left it switched on with the 4 dashes in the LCD screen... IF I press the BAND during this time, it just displays 4 dashes lower the 4 in the middle and stays locked... when its unlocked I think it goes back to CODE IN flashing in the screen... untill then the units are .... useless....

UPDATE:

Left a unit on for 2 days now, however, its auto switched off, and is still locked out....

So that hasn't worked....

Hi,
A few years ago I removed the EEPROM from my mates radio & read it to get the code....it wasn't that hard to do & it was an interesting challenge.

The programme I used to read the chip needed nothing more than a printer port on the PC....wires were soldered to the legs of the EEPROM & then connected straight into the printer port.

The programme read the chip & I got the code (Example 1234)....the chip was then replaced back into the radio & the radio put back together....powered the radio up & waited until it was ready to accept the code (approx 2 hour wait if I remember correctly) then entered the code....1234 ...it didn't work....after another 2 hours wait  I re-entered the code but reversed it (4321) & bingo it worked....the radio was up & running :)

To be honest I set about reading the chip more as a challenge than anything else & my mate wasn't bothered if the radio survived my medlings, so I had nothing to loose....I often feel when you have this attitude things have an uncanny way of working out!

Here's a link to the simple programme I used to read the chip..
http://www.rampantapathy.co.uk/download ... /93c46.zip

If any of you are going to have a go at removing & reading the chip I'll try to help the best I can....but I'm no expert. :)

Cheers.

ok... not sure if im stupid or not, but were exactly is this "EPROM"...

I cant find the number 93c46 on either 8 leg chips...

Is it IC102 or IC107??

Thanks

On my Clarion PU-1562A the 93c46 chip is IC204 on the underside of the radio up by the volume control wheel.

You're welcome...it only took me 3 weeks to find it again

IIRC getting the radio apart wasn't to hard ....the next problem was identifying the chip as its not marked as 93C46 :? ....the one I done was marked -
136
T46E
2044G

(I had help from an electronics forum identifying the chip ...I was expecting it to be marked as 93C46...as you would)

Once identified  you need to desolder the chip from the circuit board as I don't believe it's possible to read it in place unless you have proper kit.

Once the chip is out....I used a hot glue gun to stick the chip to a piece of wood to keep it still while I soldered fly wires to the legs of it....I used telephone wire for this as I had a roll lying around.

I soldered the ends of the fly wires from the chip to thin panel pins that fitted into the end of the printer extension lead nice & snugly...I checked that these were making a good connection with a multi meter.

I believe the 93C46 is a rotated chip so the function of its legs doesn't match the info supplied with the programmer ....take a look at a data sheet for the 93C46 to see how a rotated chip's legs differ....

http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/D ... 21749G.pdf

Go on have a go...it's great fun...you know you want your dining room table to look like the nutty professors lab bench don't you....LOL

Cheers.

Hmmmm

The two 8 legs IC's in here on the main board are 45580 JRC 8122c... BOTH have the same numbers on, and theres only a 14pin chip - so im completely lost here
