ZX - Suspension Curiosity

Post by sooty »

Is there any reason why the lowered spring sets listed in the 'GSF catalogue' for the Pug 306 cannot be fitted to the ZX, as there are none listed for it.

If you have a look at the rear suspension on the back of a ZX, you will note that the car does not have conventional shock/dampers whereas as the Pug does which'll be why there are no lowered spring sets for the ZX. (As far as I can tell, the rear suspension work by using a form of hydraulic rams/dampers?!)
I can't figure why Citroen have done this as I believe the Pug handles better on a twisty road and give a smoother overall ride. Saying that, it is probably just a psychological effect as I believe any car I get into is better than mine!
Another point worth mentioning is that Pugs tend to be the more tuneable of Cit/Pug (excepting the Saxo) as you'll find more tuned 306's than ZX's even though they generally have the same engines and floorplans. The only major difference I can visually see between the two cars is the rear suspension set-up
It has been a while since I dared to stick my head underneath the back end of my car so if anyone thinks I am wrong, please correct me<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Um???
The ZX uses torsion bars and conventional shock absorbers at the rear.
So does the 306. in fact, people have put 306 rear beams in ZX's when the arm bearings have worn out.
Both models also share the same "passive rear steer" subframe mounts.
The Lowering spring kits listed for the 306 are in fact only for the front of the car. The rear is lowered by means of turning round the rear torsion bars on their splines.
See http://www.tuning.co.uk/puglowering/lowering.htm for a clear picture of 306/Zx rear set up, and how to lower it.
As regards the front end, I have checked in the lowering spring manufacturer's catalogue, and the 306 springs are different than ZX.
If you do want some ZX ones, drop me a line and I'll get a price on them. You need to tell me what sort of ZX you have (engine, trim).
Theres front springs available with a 40mm drop.

Sorry its my fault, misleading you all.
Knowing that the Cits and Pugs are in general the same in mechanical suspension and transmission etc. Just curious why GSF only list Pug springs for the FRONT and not Cits. Granted there are slight differences in the spring rates and hieghts, but could they be fitted.

Sooty sorry for not replying to your email, many things and problems on at the moment. I don't know what the actual diffrence is. As we don't stock ZX springs only the 306 lowering ones its not like I can compare them side to side or anything.
Anyone else know?

I have a list from Kilen, one of the spring suppliers. As it seems, springs for P306 1.9 D/TD and ZX 1.9 D/TD are really somewhat different. The specifications are:
ZX: spring diameter 159 mm, wire diameter 12.75 mm, spring length 474 mm
P306: spring diameter 157 mm, wire diameter 12.50 mm, spring length 429 mm
