RP Numbers

Post by surfer »

Dumb question, but I've only had the car for one month ~ please make allowances:
What exactly is the RP number, and where it is located?
Is it with the vin plates??
Thanks,
Simon.

The RP number is number which tells you on exactly which day the car was built. It started at 0001 way back (70's I think), and is increased by 1 each day.
See this link which describes it in detail, and includes a calculator:

It is usually stencilled on the bodywork somewhere under the bonnet - around an inner wing / suspenion turret / bulkhed. Where depends on what model, when it was made, how hungover the stencilling guy was etc etc. You may find it on the doorpost on some older models.

if its a newer model (from about V reg onwards) then it is on the sticker on the door pillar with the tyre pressures on it starting with a 0 and ending with two letters eg 0****CA. the two letters is the factory it was made in.

On a Xantia its to be found on the offside (drivers) suspension turret. On mine its above the colour code print in yellow paint. Most Xantia's start with a 6*** number.
On newer cars (eg. my 2002 Xsara) it is on the tyre pressure sticker on the drivers doorframe. The bottom set of codes denotes the RP or ORGA number.

Thanks for that chaps.
Shame there isn't an extra number to go with that, which indicates how well the car was 'made'.
Simon.
