xantia main airbag light on

Post by baldrick »

Xantia hdi 90 bhp

Hi,
my main airbag light is flashing on and off and has been for a few months now, i've read that the connectors under the seat may need soldering but arn't they just for the airbag light fitted in the seat or are they all connected.
which wires connect to which as i seem to have a green wire that is fastened to nothing.

Also the red battery light has just started to stay on and now the battery has gone flat, the belts fine and not slipping and no bad connections so i'm thinking alternator are there any serviceable parts in this.

thanks
Baldrick

For the alternator it's best to swap it out for a refurb one, just make sure you compare the alternator the store gives you with the one that's currently on your car as many places have a great habbit of handing out the wrong one (and there are plenty of varieties for Xantiae anyway!).
Check the voltage across the battery with the engine running, should be 14v if memory serves.

Is the battery OK (how old)? It needs running on a load tester to really see if it's up to scratch. A duff cell can cause it to hold a shallow charge.

That in itself may be causing the ECU to see faults that don't really exist.

The airbag dash light will be set flashing by a poor connection anywhere, in addition to actual malfunction or deployment. Mine occasionally flashes for a day or so; I push a bit at the underseat plugs and it will be gone next time. Rough roads have a lot to answer for!

Regards, Adam.

On my MK1 they were for the seat belt explosives.

That sounds a lot cooler and Bond-like than "pre-tensioners" :D

Given me an idea now - can they be modded to create the famous ejector seat? Maybe not, I don't have a sunroof.

How many wires have you got under there? I recall it being two, orange & green perhaps?

Hi Baldrick

i spent ages a bit of cash getting to bottom of the air bag warning light. You will no doubt find my saga if you do a search. I'm pleased to say that the problem was fixed but i suggest the following:

1. Get the codes read from a local gararge or main dealer if you have to.
2. This will show you where the problem is.
3. In my case no-one could read the codes so I had to go main dealer who in turn replaced the air bag ECU.
4. Then all was well until the light came on again but this time they could read the codes and the connections under one seat just needed to be soldered.

Bit of a saga but now resolved.

Good luck.

very common problem due to driver seat being pushed all they way back the 2 pin cables disconnect because they are very badly fitted by the dealers who knew about this problem and did zero to solve it, solder the wires together which is what I did only problem was if you need to remove the seat but then you know what to to do

An alternative if you think you're likely to have to remove the seats in the future would be to replace the original connectors with Deans.
Would probably be easier too as you can take the seats out then fit the new connectors.

Whats deans,
i put the battery back on and sprayed inside alternator with wd40 went for a run and battery light was still on then it began to flicker on and off then went off completly but then the abs light came on so i pulled up turned ignition off then started back up, abs and battery light stayed off and now it seems to be charging again, hope it's alright tomorrow, now to fix the airbag light.

Strange !

Deans:
Image

As you can see, they've got springs on the back of the contacts to ensure proper contact and to hold them together.

In airsoft, due to it's technical similarities with RC cars, tamiya connectors are generally used, which are very similar in how they work to the orange connectors under our seats, and likewise suffer from contact problems.
So those of us in the know swap them out for deans.
They also have a lower resistance too.
