citroen c5 suspension droop

Post by axford »

Wow what a complicated site.I must be thick but it's taken me 20 mins to find the 'simply do this' to post a question.
Anyway I wonder if anyone can help.I've just noticed that my 2.0 hdi c5 is drooping at the rear drivers side.It goes up and down along with the other corners fine but it is a good few inches lower
Does anyone know what the problem might be and do i need to remortgage and go to citroen or can I sort it myself.
Any help much appreciated.
Come to think of it when i ,ve been getting out lately it has been making a groaning noise from that area!

What age is the Car? C5s are having faulty suspension cylinders at about 5-6 years. They leak fluid, so maybe could be that.
Have you checked your fluid level? Its hiding under a plastic cover in the engine bay, drivers side. With the suspension on lowest, the fluid should be up to the little hole if you take the cap off and peer in.
The fluid is LDS if you need to top it up.
If it is low, it might be an idea to take to a specialist to have a look and see where the leak is from and how much its lost.

Hi,thanks for the response. It's a 2001 car.Where is the plastic cover exactly, could you mention where it is next to or attached to .I have had a good look underneath but can't see any obvious leaks.Could it possibly have 'used' some fluid over time and not have a leak or is that just wishful thinking.
Thanks again for your help.

If you open the bonnet, look to your left. It goes from the back of the engine to the front. Has about 5 plastic pins that secure it in place. The water tank cap for radiator sticks out through a hole in it.
The Suspension tank has a picture of a steering wheel on the top of it.

I have noticed mine seems to leak fluid out of the cap some how.

There is usualy some more intelligent people on here who have more of a clue than I, but they seem not to have arrived yet.

i dont know a lot regarding C5's yet, but i have heard you have to depresurise the tank before removing the cap, if this i correct how do you release the presure,

also i belive the steering and suspension share the same fluid

Mine can be very difficult to remove. I have no idea how you depressurise it. I have removed it in the past to top it up. I've probably knackered it.

Yes the fluid does both steering and suspension.

ahhhh ! that cover. I thought you meant a little sneakily hidden one. I never knew it was the same fluid reservoir as the power steering. Will check when it stops raining.I am wondering if the additive you can get to stop power steering leaks might work or is that a daft idea ?
I was quoted £420 last week at cit dealers to replace intercooler and rocker cover to cure small oil leaks, both of which I have cured with a £4.99 tube of leak-fix. Thats why I'm not jumping in with 'I'll just take it to the dealers and see what they say', syndrome.
In my view there is always an answer to defy the dealers because the last time I was there waiting in the 'waiting bit' there was a cit dealer mag on the table boasting a 'league table' of dealers throughout the country with the highest income generator at the top and a write up of how fantastically busy they had been.Very worrying for Joe public.
Thanks for all input.

i would not put any addative in the LDS tank, as you might end up costting your sekf loads of dosh, as you coulg distroy the seals through out the hydraulic system
