add intercooler to hdi 90

Post by mrlogik »

Always wanted my hdi 90 to get the extra oomph from a cold charge rather than breathing the hot air from its turbo,we all know this as one of the main differences in the 110s power hike but has anyone successfully installed a 110 intercooler or gone one better and fitted an even bigger intercooler from something else?

i have often thought about it on the other halfs pic my old xantia was a 110bhp and the extra 20bhp makes a lot of difference but there`s is more than an intercooler that makes the extra power but i am sure that there would be a little gain. what i wonder is if the ECU would compensate plumbing wise it would be finding an intercooler that would fit the getting the parts of a 110bhp donor car

Intercooler for HDi90

Post by paulbx »

I too have looked at this and amongst other issues I cannot properly remember I did discover that the HDi90 engine has different cam set up and a few other timing issues that differ from the 110.

The clutch and 'box are different too, aren't they? I remember "chipped" CX GTi Turbos - their appetite for long straights was matched only by their appetite for clutches...

Depends on which car, the Xantia HDi 90 uses the BE3 box, and the 110 uses the ML5.

On the Xsara both 90 and 110 use the same BE4 'boxes, although the 110 does have a larger clutch.

You can "chiptune" the engine from 90 to approx. 110 bhp. Without adding the intercooler :-) (the 110 bhp 2.0 liter engine can go up to 140 bhp after the chiptuning)

Adding an intercooler is a popular mod on 306s. Have a look at the TDCI forums for more info - http://www.tdi-forum.co.uk/

Fit a second one above the engine from a 405/ZX and an airscoop in the bonnet.

Non standard intercooler option

Post by mrlogik »

Glad to see everyone getting involved in this topic and that some of you see my point of adding an intercooler as it really is the best thing for a turbo charged engine without one in terms of hp and torque as sucking on the hot air from the turbo is hampering engines witch thrive on cold air.If i was to go down the 110 route and try and rig its standard intercooler in there id need a rough idea on pipe routing and connections needed from citroen so could i have some naked [cover removed etc] so i can see where it all should go as ive seen intercoolers on ebay fairly cheap in the past, even going aftermarket id need the pics for reference so any pics of 110 hdi under bonnet a bonus, thanks Heath
oh yeah i noticed this baby what you think http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-CITROEN-C5- ... 6.c0.m14 whats the hp and torque on a 2.2 hdi like that?
