Contact a Citroën dealer before doing any work yourself as there was a recall for faulty front springs. I know that part of the recall was fit a protective ring around the spring but you may be lucky and find that Citroën will pay for the work.

You will need a spring compressor - and from looking at ours recently you will need to strip off the wipers and scuttle panel to get to the top of the strut to get it out (unless it's bolted on from underneath....). I very much doubt Citroen will want to know on a 7 year old car, but it's always worth asking

what an absolute nightmare to do you have to compress the spring before you take the strut out from under the car and the bottom pinch bolt was solid

you need to compress it for clearance to get it out of the hub housing

wheeler is correct if i have done it right here is a link to a service citroen page, with exploded diaghram of the front strut

http://service.citroen.com/docpr/AC/img ... 34206g.jpg

so i belive you just undid the top centre nut before removing the complete strut, as it will come out with the top sring cap in place

no i had to compress it in situ to allow clearance to clear the bottom hub carrier this has to be moved down as far as possible and the strut has to be compressed this is what it says in the haynes manual but another way to do it would be to remove it with the complete hub eg remove driveshaft, brake caliper abs sensor bottom ball joint and tract rod end
