Help my engine managment lights on!!
Hi
Can anyone help advise me of whats wrong with my xsara 2.0 HDI the engine management light has come on and it has loss of power and only revs to around 3000rpm, the engine sounds fine and it starts but it then conks out after a few miles!!!
Im clueless as to what it could be and dont wanna get ripped of by a garage..
Many thanks

Sounds like one of the number of various sensors the HDi engine uses has gone faulty... Im not an HDi driver although have driven one or two.. It could well be the EGR valve playing up.. bu thats a gues, someone else could well be along soon to explain other possible things..

Do the Hdi engines have sensors on the exhaust? Like MAP or Lamda?
If so, would they have been clogged up by the unburnt diesel when the turbo pipe was off?

Should do, or give the garage an idea of where to look anyway.

You really can't poke and hope with these engines - they are far too complex. What was used to scan the codes - I'm not at all convinced by those? What car we talking here? Xsara Picassos are known for getting corrosion on the ECU connector that can flag all sorts of odd codes / problems. It might be worth posting over at honestjohn.co.uk - Screwloose who posts there is extremely knowledgeable about the vagaries of HDi fault codes.

Are the brake lights sticking on or are the working at all, sometimes the brake light switch can come out of its holder so thinks the brakes are being pressed, if the ECU sees the brakes & accelerator being pressed at the same time it can bring the light on & cause it to lack power.
The air intake sensor is part of the airflow meter. I personally would be looking at the other faul first. Have the fault been cleared to see if they re occur ?
