Trying to find an eccentric tensioner

Post by red_dwarfers »

The sepentine belt tensioners on the Xantia are on their last legs
The spring one has siezed and has noisey bearings and the eccentric also has noisey bearings.

I've found a few places that stock the spring tensioners for around £50 (GSF, Kevin Cooper SW) but im having a bit of a problem trying to source an eccentric one, I was suprised when GSF said they didn't list them.

One of you must know somewhere that stocks them cheaper than the main stealers!

A trip to the breakers might yield one. They were used on lots of PSA cars and don't normally give huge trouble compared to the spring tensioner.

Chances are a scrappy-sourced one will prove good and will cost little.

I don'y know the GSF stockking policy but it may be that their inherent reliability makes it uneconomic for them to keep stocks.

Lexi,

Whats the part number for the eccentric tensioner? my local branch don't stock them!

Is your's the 1.9 TurboD?

The other one is the spring tensioner, GSF list loads of different bits for it it seems.

It's called a ribbed belt tensioner on their system. The GSF branch manager
in Cardiff looked up different pulleys and tensioners on a different catalogue
listing for me rather than the usual one and it came ip listed straight away.

IIRC, it's 70mm diameter and 30 overall thickness with the actual pulley
27mm thick.

I'll try and find the part number on the old box or receipt it came with!

Yes mine is 1.9 TD 98 Model. I have the part here and will try to dig out invoice. It is the same Spanish item as the cambelt tensioner. My local GSF takes the reg no. and gives suitable parts from the info.
