Mk2 or Series 2 or Xantia 2 - which is true?
I'm having trouble ensuring I get the correct head gasket set as I know Citroen have at least revised the manifold gaskets on my engine as well as at least one head coolant hose & fitting.
I got the gasket dealer confused so he asked for my reg and that gave him...
"Eng Code/Series 1: Eng XUD9TE/XUD9TF "
It is the XUD9TE but what's with the series 1? Service.citroen aren't much help as under my VIN they list it as "Xantia II"

Yours is officially a XANTIA II Mike. That's how Citroen know them.
Our terms of Series1, MK1 etc. are unofficial.
Anyone know the RP number of the changeover?
As regards head and manifold gaskets for the engine, according to Laser, there is no difference between XANTIA and XANTIAII for the XUD9TE..
Both the range of head gaskets and top overhaul gasket sets have precisely the same part numbers.

Should only be 3 notches for thickness, the other 2 relate to whether it's for a 1.7 or 1.9 engine, and whether it's turbo or not. TBH the difference is so small, I'd just stick the thick 3 notch one in, especially if the head has been skimmed - ISTR that this is the only one GSF supply anyway.

I'm shopping around - mostly ebay sellers at the moment (haven't looked at GSF yet) but I would prefer to get the same manifold gaskets that came off the car. If the all-in-one piece fits the ports perfectly with just a slight alteration then I suppose it'll do, eh?
Who's Laser, Jim? I can't find them online other than for american market and they don't list the xantia for obvious reasons
FYI, my RP is 07859 CJ 1 0018
I don't have the means to measure piston clearance and seeing as the gasket that came off was the thickest (3 & 3 notches) I think I've only got one choice. I see Citroen offer 1-5 notches which is even more confusing because, as already stated, the first three denote thickness while the second three denote engine type. Yet, 3rd-party suppliers invariably quote 3+1 or 3+1+1 notches so I'm really lost on that one.

Go for the thickest one Mike. Service.citroen.com list 5 thicknesses and a super-thick five notcher which I think is the "repair" gasket. it tells you how thick they are.
Laser is a DVD-based tool with parts lists and some other useful information. The parts lists look exactly like service.citroen.com.
I use it as it saves me logging into service.citroen.com although my copy is a bit old now. It dates from 2003. Only thing it does not tell me is the prices. I leave it running in the background...

That'll explain why I can't find them online As you know Jim, the manifold gaskets have been revised so you might want to update your software Then you can compare the differences and let me know of any other gotcha's waiting to strike?
Do Citroen really mean four/five notches or three plus one/two? The old gasket I have is three plus three which I understand is the thickest. Either way, I'm not buying OEM, they want over £50 for the gasket alone. I think I'll take Malcolm's suggestion and buy from GSF.

GSF N11416 about £30
Has the manifold gasket too (which I had to trim for my new head because of the change in coolant spigot angle).
I took Jim's advice and asked for a repair gasket in the kit I ordered.

i thought the last time i bought a diesel head gasket and head set the head gasket was sold seperatly to the set,
GSF part No. N11416 is the head set but dose not include the head gasket which is N 11150/2, i cant remeber if the /2 is a diferant thickness or a cheaper quality, as i said early i preffer MELIOR
regards malcolm

Hi xac, That's the part number for a GSF Head Gasket Set I've got listed at £27.50 + vat but surely that doesn't include the head gasket for that price?
The GSF choices of individual head gaskets are...
N11152 CYL.HEAD GSKT-3 NOTCH XANTIA 1.9TD 3 NOTCH 23.50
N11153 CYLINDER HEAD GSKT XANTIA 1.9TD METAL SANDWICH TYPE-STD 23.50
I want MultiLayerSteel type and seems only the "STD" N11153 offers that. Did your repair gasket have MLS? Can you remember how many notches?
I don't mind trimming a gasket but are the holes a perfect fit over the ports, I have a vague memory of Jim warning me about differing shapes which is why I'm being stubborn about avoiding the all-in-one manifold gasket? In their revision, Citroen made the inlet gaskets from a biscuit-type card (easily snapped) while the exhaust gaskets are metallic so there must be a very good reason they changed them. What was your manifold gasket material?

well I am stuck now....
Silver gasket at top is an inlet/exhaust manifold I got ages ago, the rest is all from a top-end gasket set.. why are so many gaskets available for the same jobs...
sorry to hijack slightly Mike..

Sorry Mike, can't remember much about the HG, we pretty much just put it on and refitted the head.
